We were talking about this last night in the pub. Many people will probably not be coming back until this disease is history. Certainly people are taking advantage of half price food offerings, but it was felt that many will not come back even if beer prices were slashed. Money isn’t really the issue....

How does the meal deal work? Like, do folk get a voucher, (I havnt got one), or are your prices just halved with the Government coughing up the difference? (can see the fault lines in that from here)

We don’t do food, but those that do register with the government and give a discount of 50% up to a max of £10 per person. There are no vouchers, the outlet puts the sale in, plus the discount and the government makes up the difference. Seems to be working. I bought my granddaughter an ice cream at a very small Cafe and it just went straight through the till showing the original price and the discounted price....

We ended up in town and quite a few bars were still closed so only ended up going in 1 or 2 but was still suprised how relatively quiet it was.

I get the worry as I have a missus and little one whereas my mate is a single jack the lad type and he's not really that arsed about the virus so I've debated going out but end of the day im not prepared to lose family/friends over a virus so just took the risk as I feel we all have to if we want to get some form of normality back.

Thats it really. The figures are low, the death rate low. Be sensible. If there was a major spike then people will stay at home. But some people who have not been out throughout this will find it very difficult to socialise in public as opposed to a closed group...

Was out on the ale with my mate last night - even for a wednesday evening was very quiet out.

eerily quiet.

I went for a meal in quite a nice food pub in London last night, taking advantage of the Tory Groupon, and it was really quite busy for a Wednesday. I booked on the Monday and a table was only free from Wednesday 9pm.

Most tables inside and outside were taken when we arrived also.

We went out for pizza on Monday night too, for the same reason. We are going to eat out a fair few more times this month while the deal is on.

Fair dos if you're willing to pay the extra for having a "Made In Britain" badge would probably mean, but most people are very price sensitive. Buying British to support British workers is no bad thing, but it does sound like the sort of thing that Farage would say.
Sorry but it's nothing to do with the badge, it's economics.
Few people under the age of 50 know anything other than neo lib free market capitalism, introduced to UK by the Thatcher governments.
Real wealth (not virtual) is made by adding value to materials by working on them.
By giving way to manufacturing offshore gave away the means of creating true wealth.
The service economy merely circulates virtual money, it does not create real wealth for the nation.
The UK economy is too dependent on folk selling houses to each other, serving food and drink, cutting hair and polishing nails, money laundering and the casino of the city.
Need to be making much more of that stuff that currently carries the label "made in china".
Get back to that once all critical "balance of payments " statement.
The economic philosophies of Hayek and Freidman have had their day but have served their purpose in making the already rich even richer and the poor greater in number.
Don't ask me what should we change to, I'm not and economist, but a change is necessary.

I must have missed the bit in Road to Serfdom where Hayek says the government should focus the economy on services rather than manufacturing

i think the outside thing can be deceptive in that you, I mean people generally not you , see people outside and think it’s busy but in reality Often not many if any are inside so it’s actually still relatively quiet .

I also think the restaurant thing is a strange one as ,for example, Tuesdays have generally been really busy as I imagine working from home makes it less of an issue and people think it’ll be too busy at the weekend.

it’s going to take to right itself even if a vaccine was introduced tomorrow . A doctor and disease risk expert was on R5 today and was talking about how he’s going out but obviously minimising his risk by hand washing and SD . Preaching about covid positivity but concerns over the real damage over the long term economic impact . It was actually fascinating .
