Let's get everyone back to work first

Cant see how that can happen, work hours we are allowed to be in a work place with many others, while in down time we need social distance and keep to our bubbles, just don't make sense...

It certainly amplified it at the beginning yeah.

It's one of those double edged swords because the magnitude of the situation has to be portrayed to really hit home at the start that we all had to stay indoors. At the same time when the 'news' is being sourced from social media then it's creating hysteria as well.

I've always been a firm believer that the media has used scare tactics all through this. Running stories without substance to frighten people , from some of the more bizarre like bald people being more suseptible to ways in which they can scare you about kids getting it when the figures weren't there to show it.

I suppose it's the fine balance that needs to be found. To convey the seriousness of a pandemic but in a right way. English media certainly didn't get that balance right.

Think you are under the impression the media is there to protect and inform people for the common good... Those days if they did ever exist have long gone. The media is out for itself be that the organisation or the whims of its owner...

Being fat, sick and old is a cause for concern for all aspects of health.

But didn't the 1918 pandemic mainly target the young and healthy?
It may have done.

But it's 2020 , and we aren't suffering from the Spanish flu.

Unless you are suggesting that it's like the flu which I know you aren't. The stats no matter the varying factors say that those factors play a major part in this. If nearly half or maybe more deaths come from over 75 then you can't argue that age is the biggest factor.

I've noticed that there is a growing inability to buy certain things in shops. Might be just noticed cos they are things I buy frequently but I haven't seen cans of coconut milk, thai chillies and good quality flavoured dark chocolate for weeks. The vegans with exotic tastes will be starting food riots soon.

To be fair, a degree of perspective is required. If you look globally, while 700,000 people have died, and that's terrible, you also have 11.7 million people who have had the virus confirmed and recovered from it. It's possible I'm looking in the wrong places, but I don't recall ever seeing that figure championed at all, yet it is good news.
11.7M "recovered from it". But it isn't as simple as that, it's not a case of if you get it you either die or return to normal health. Of that 11.7M there will be hundreds of thousands of people who are permanently damaged by the desease. A friend of my son had it, he is a cyclist and has appently lost 25% of his lung efficiency, ruined his training.
This will be the problem now. The most vulnerable have probably been carried away already. Whilst we have youngsters putting caution to the wind, having fun, they could be infecting other people who have their lives changed by the virus.
We must try to approach some kind of normality but at the same time carry out precaution in the form of distancing and wearing a mask so that you don't share your respiratory droplets with all and sundry.

Oh for sure, I'm not for one minute advocating a hari kari approach to this. There is a lot we don't know, so an air of caution is sensible. I'm just also conscious that there are many who are paralysed by fear, and that's not healthy either. It's about having a sensible balanced approach to the risks involved.

Guess I missed the whole Georgia (USA) reopening schools last week, got this nice headline when I went to do some reading

Teachers returned to a Georgia school district last week. 260 employees have already gone home to quarantine.

Seems like it's going well so far.
Southern states seem eager to fall over each other to become the most embarrassing state on how not to get back to normal.

At least when people moan elsewhere they can point to them as examples and use articles and data like this.

Yeah, my kids are gonna be remote when their school starts up. PITA for me as you can't just let an ipad watch them but I'll take that over a major outbreak in this area.

Since I tried to get a test sent to me I've asked around a bit and people have told me that they've tested positive for covid on these kits then been told they only have a cold and others reporting that their tests have shown nothing, basically havent worked. At the moment these tests are just adding to the deepening confusion.

Is
That's called leadership.

Over here we have a muderous ballbag in charge telling people to cram ale houses and take advantage of 50% off a meal to get cram them into restaurants.
Is it leadership or playing to the crowd? Going back and forth with changing rules doesnt come across to me as someone in command. Though I take your personal view on the covid into consideration of course.
