As an aside, reading some studies into mental health over the weekend, and it's apparently common for suicides to fall immediately after big, national disasters, but then rise significantly several months after. If that applies to Covid, then we might be entering that sweetspot at the moment, so do please take care of yourselves and those around you.

I do worry for people tbh, lots of job losses etc its going to be a very different world from the one we was in pre covid

And that's where the only common sense lies so hold that thought: the only way life can go on and people can stay relatively 'safe' is for the old and in danger to stay at home and isolate and the rest of us get on with things. Should've been like that from day 1.
or for the old and in danger to go out freely and the rest of us to stay indoors so we don't kill them?

And because we had no clue about the virus

No social distancing

No face masks in public

Hospitals not ready

Think its daft to suggest locking down again at this stage - you dont jump from 65 to 800+ deaths in the space of a few weeks with the current rules in place.

Although I was out for a few pints earlier and the local wetherspoons was pretty lax in terms of social distancing tbh - I actually got served at the bar when I thought it was meant to be all table service
I think that is part of the problem - some restrictions get eased and people forget about, or ignore, the other safeguards such as social distancing etc. Those are the things that make increased cases more likely, with shutdowns sure to follow. We have seen it in Australia too where Melbourne has gone back into full lockdown including curfews, although fortunately for me, Western Australia seems to be doing ok and we don't really have any restrictions other than closing the border (although a local fat hideous businessman/politician from Queensland has taken WA to the high court to try and get the border reopened because he wasn't allowed in)

This trade off they are talking about between having to close pubs again so they can open schools surely there are other ways to handle it.
I have no vested interest either way as my kids are long gone from school and my visits to the pub at the moment are a thing of the past.
My solution would be for the police to start doing there job and not constantly hide behind the lack of manpower as an excuse to stand back and do nothing.Maybe what they should be doing is checking on the pubs and if there is blatant disregard for social distancing tell the manager to close the bar and give them half an hour to clear the premises. If they call back in half an hour and it is still the same inform the manager that as of the next day they will not be able to open until further notice.
If they do clear the bar as requested tell them that they have 1 strike against there name and if they get two more they will be closed until further notice.
This would require a certain amount of common sense by the police and can be done without conflict. It would also protect the landlords who are doing the right things and getting punished for the failings of others.
But what do I know I'm just a simple soul from the land of the bogs

It's getting to be like a game of chess with more and more rules. The only answer is if you dont wanna go out, dont go out.

What makes you think police officers aren’t “doing their job” now, out of interest ?

Nothing I said was opinion.
This disease has a greater effect on older people- FACT.
Modern medicine has allowed people who would otherwise have died a long time ago to live into old age and develop other conditions as they age - FACT
The average age of people in Ireland who have died from covid19 is a higher number than the life expectancy-FACT
"People don't like what I say because what I say is pretty heartless" so to quote Ben Shapiro "facts don't care about your feelings". If you don't like it I'm sorry there's nothing I can do I can't change the facts.
‘Facts don’t care about your feelings’ lol lol Great start to the week
