they mean well but why the hell would I wear a mask while enjoying the beach..

Thing is they are not simply highlighting how no one at the beach is wearing one.

Huntington Beach in Orange County has been one of the worst offenders for people not wearing a mask that is mandatory.

It's also seen a high spike in cases in the last couple of weeks.

Sure in the video they clearly walk around the town and many not wearing beach wear or looking like they are headed that way are wearing them.

Huntington and laguna beaches were two of the worst when they opened them again. People were packed in them both like sardines and no masks to be seen.

Weekly figures, from

% calculations, and therefore mistakes, are my own

All figures are UK Wide. The dates are different for different measures because of the way the data is collected and/or calculated. The finer grained data is on the website if anyone's interested in their own geographic area.

New Cases 7 day daily average :-

14th July : 609.3
7th July : 551

Up 10.6%

Number of Tests 7 day daily average

14th July : 134,176
7th July : 133,055

No significant change

Patients in hospital

15th July : 1835
8th July : 2251

Down 18.5%

Ventilated patients

16th July : 142
9th July : 188

Down 24.4%

Deaths : 7 day daily average

14th July : 83.3
7th July : 74.1

Up 12%

On the face of it, this weeks metrics are a mixed bag, with cases and deaths up, but hospital stats moving in the right direction. The absolute variation on cases and deaths could just be noise in the data though, so I wouldn't read too much into that to be honest.

Pubs opening and other relaxations might just be about feeding into the new cases figures, but they're probably not yet ? If those relaxations are going to start ending up with new cases, then I'd expect to start to see something next week to a small extent. If cases don't rise by mid-August, then it's probably safe to say the relaxations havn't made much difference. Though, as it gets colder, and windows and doors get shut, that may change.

Is not the same as the rash thing?

Rashes being pushed as part of the key symptoms yet when they tested people with rashes , only 3% more actually had the virus compared to who didn't.

Same as Kawasaki disease where over 50% didn't test positive yet it was attributed to it?

I'm a broken record but again it sounds like scare tactics over and over. If you can't scare people now then scare them for the future as well

I mean so many of these stories amount to nothing now.
I have no idea what you mean with the “rash thing”.

However this is a new disease and therefore the data is unclear/developing and there are going to be false starts and changes in conclusions - that doesn’t mean it is all a nefarious plot.

Low incidence also does not mean “amount to nothing”, especially if it is your kid impacted. The rise in Kawasaki like symptoms treated at hospitals last time seemed to increase late on in a hotspot area - we’ll see if there the same is observed in places like Texas.
