I'm not resentful of those who were furloughed, I just think it would be nice if us keyworkers were also given something ;)

As I said a bit earlier, in Czech health workers have had a bonus from the government recently. I think supermarket workers have had something extra here, and yet all NHS staff have had is a clap, despite the government throwing money left, right and centre at everyone else. NHS staff, especially nurses, get crap salaries anyway, so it really is an indication of just how valued they really are. [Poor language removed] meaningless gestures like clapping.

My sister still earns more than me on her furlough scheme than I do in this period in my keyworker role. But it's been bliss on roads until recently, no oncoming vehicle while emailing no stalling at the traffic lights while brushing hair or shaving. Alas, it's getting back to normal now.

Johnson went to Oxford so is clearly not daft, so I'm inclined to think it's less a matter of intellect as it is general humility. There's a clear sense of entitlement and detachment in not only Johnson but Gove and others like them. They simply have no connection with the lives of normal people, and no intention to try and understand them.
This. During this whole pandemic I always had the impression that Johnson et al were miffed they had to explain themselves to us plebs. this was never clearer during the Cummings incident. they are clearly 'our betters' and we should 'trust' them to know what is good for us and stop being upstarts.

As said above mate, not everybody has the luxury of staying home with the sniffles.
Even before this pandemic people should have been encouraged to stay away from work if they’re sick. Far too many people go to work sick as it is. Even just cold & flu can knock an office on its arse but people feel like they’re committing a crime staying off with it.

I was going to type almost exactly what Bruce did ...

but also a shift in mindset about the sick pay that is so crucial to supporting people in not spreading.

If people have only worked for employers who pay full pay when you're off sick, they just don't realise why people who don't have that support, need to drag themselves in. As a general rule, it's the people who are most likely to spread the disease who are more likely to be on [Poor language removed] contracts ( care workers are the obvious example ).

I'm a little bit resentful of those who have just come back to work with tans who loudly brag of how they played playstation/drank/had general fun/sunbathed...while i sweated over a laptop trying to source hand sanitizer and ppe. some of them had the cheek to throw in 2 weeks holiday when asked to come back!!!!

Not only that, the poorer members of society are also those most likely to be in roles that can only be done face-to-face, so in addition to them having fewest employment protections for things like sick pay, they also tend to be most vulnerable of catching, and spreading, the virus. The middle classes have generally been fine with furloughing or working from home.

I wrote a strongly worded email to my MP about it. Sadly, it's the only thing we can do. I've no doubt he'll tell me to get away.

Intelligence isn't just academia imo, far from it. In fact, some of the cleverest people I know academically have been train wrecks in life. Johnson has clearly stopped bothering to learn anything new and is woefully unfit to be the leader of a country, it's plain to see.

The welsh government have announced weeks ago that all care workers will receive a 500 pound bonus . The dispute at the moment I believe is that the treasury want to tax it and Drakeford is adamant that it won’t be taxed

Similar situation to you .... I’ve had to work right through this pandemic, no choice really. Our company don’t do the furlough scheme so you have to come to work or you don’t get paid, if I was to catch covid I would obviously have to stay at home and receive about 90 quid a week ssp..... who can live on that ?
Exactly mate, its human instinct, a virus that has very very low chance of effecting me is not gunna stop me earning money

i value my mental health too much for that

It's frankly a disgusting choice some of have to make. However, it's a choice that is going to become many more people, it's clearly defined and prophtised in the book Britannia Unchained, much of the authors are now in ministerial positions, and Johnson is a known admirer. Basically the book describes British work force as spolit and lazy, hence why we can't compete in the world.
