I’ll rely on hygiene and distance first unless the coming 1m rule includes compulsory use. Won’t trust a bit of cloth or paper to keep me safe though

Same. I have a simple credo. If I dont get it, Mrs R wont.

So I spend all day at home, making sure she is taken care of, go the shops when I know its quiet as. Social distance and wash my hands every time I come back in before anything else.

That said, I fully appreciate that many many folk dont have that luxury that covid is the only thing we have to fret about.

Its mad. 180000 cases today, globally, pretty much most in the Mericas. North and South.
Cases here have gone back up. In San Diego county or north county to locals it doubled in the last week since things reopened.

Once the governor allowed the county's to decide for themselves on certain things many of them thought that meant open everything up.

Several restaurants have been warned by the Sheriffs but they don't care. The city will only warn them and fine them if they go too far but many have ignored it.

The local stores people are already forgetting what they should be doing.

I have heard several party's in the neighborhood over the last two weekends.

First proper shift with customers about in 3 months for me today, went well. Customers fully sticking to the 2 metre rule, following enter and exit points on the tills and following instructions to basket stuff they were returning.

Wore my mask all day, from getting the bus this morning to getting off it an hour ago, bar when I went on my lunch. Easier to breathe in than the ones they provide but the shop itself was way too hot

Primark iirc? Good to hear.

So in essence, dont be a bellend.

That, and, to reduce your risk of contracting COVID, don't meet people outside your primary contacts in an enclosed environment. Or, if you do, you're accepting the risk to yourself, the people you're meeting and all your other contacts.

To me, wrt the risk of going to the pub or not is, it's as much about how prevalent the virus is in the community and how many people are in the pub as the social distancing while inside. If there's a fair chance there's going to be someone in the boozer who's infected, then I won't be going in.

At roughly 1 in 1700 people infected as I type, I won't be going into a small pub with 50 people in it ( 3% chance of someone being infected ).

If the same boozer had 10 people in it, the risk of someone infectious being there drops to 0.3%. If the ale's good, then that's a risk I'd accept.

If infections drop to 1 in 10000 in the community, then, if the same pub has 50 people in it, then this time the likelihood of someone in there being infected is 0.5%, which, for me, would be acceptable.

I had to wear one twice in the ICU. So they were proper ones. Took a trained nurse to make sure they were fitted properly. I felt like a complete divvie, but it aint just lobbing a cloth over your grid.

ICU is a different circumstance though.

And really, I was being flip earlier. I should have said I’ll put up with wearing my mask so some else doesn’t end up with a tube down their throat.

A non N95 mask isn’t going to protect the wearer too much, but throwing a mask on will help decrease the chance of spread. There is data to show that. Obviously wearing them correctly.

If wearing a mask and following other guidelines was only about protecting the person wearing it, I’d not care what folks did. You’re life, etc, etc.
But the lack of empathy for others; simply not caring if you give a person a potentially deadly disease, I am will never understand that

There's a virologist based at Cambridge University called Chris Smith who is absolutely brilliant at explaining things in simple English. He's quite often on TV, not sure if you've ever seen him.

He was on BBC news this morning explaining the risks involved in moving social distancing to 1m. He said 1m SD reduces the risk of catching the disease by 94%, and 2m SD reduces the risk by 97%. So looked at from another perspective, by moving from 2m to 1m SD, you're increasing the risk of infection from 3% to 6%, so yeah doubling it.

Every time I listen to Chris Smith I get this feeling of the scientists have some idea what they're doing, and then I come in here. lol

Thanks for the information. I hadn't seen that interview but I've seen him before.

Think I like about him is he's very down to earth and isn't interested in politics. Just wants to help inform people.

Hopefully his view is right as it shouldn't make too much of a difference with regards to pubs, hairdressers, restaurants opening etc.
