Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I understand that and appreciate it. I haven't had to do it, but I think I'm heading towards it given the state.

For what it's worth I manage a small business (not mine), I've been told by the owner if I don't feel safe not even if I have symptoms, I don't have to come in to work and I'll get paid until it passes. I work retail, so I can't really do any work work from home.

A lot of people are like just take the free money, and I see your point. That has to be awful to be stuck with absolutely nothing to do. However, I don't feel right just collecting a check and doing nothing until we are absolutely closed.

More to your point though, I'm not so concerned about whether I'll get through it. Odds are I will. I'm 30, no pre-existing condition. However, my concern isn't about myself. Wouldn't you feel awful passing it along to someone elderly? Again, I work retail so I deal with probably a thousand people plus indirectly daily. My concern is about giving it to someone who may give it to someone. Compounding things.

I can't imagine how bad it sucks, but I just don't want to compound things. Staying at home for the time being to keep things manageable seems like a relatively easy sacrifice in the grandscheme of things.

I am in a pretty good position though. I live in the suburbs, with 2 friends as roommates, and another 2 friends live next door. We have big yards and everything, so it's not like I'm stuck in a small one bedroom apartment in the city.

I get it, I just don't want to pass it on and contribute to problems those at risk face.

As I've said a few times, I'm a stoic so I don't much care for things that I cannot control. I know that I've visited high-risk areas so from that point I have taken personal responsibility to limit the detrimental impact I could have on others. My conscience is clear.

However, people get sick and people die. It's what people do.

The madness has started now.

Walked into home and bargain yesterday for a couple of bits we needed to hear upon entry that the shop worker wanted to put a sign outside saying they don't have any toilet paper. Cleaning aisle similarly barren for the most part.

It was further down when a woman asked if she could walk in front of me because the man behind me coughed.

Sad times when people start getting paranoid , although I can understand why given what they read and hear.

People have just accepted as a standard practise medical term.

Literally just labelled the general population as beasts in the field to operate as viral cannon fodder until it is burnt out and some of us animals have accidentally lived on.
This virus has outed the far right eugenicists up and down the country who have jumped a specific medical term to peddle sinister narrative and this thread is no exception.
I expect Hancock will reel back from the concept of hurd nonsense for what it is, survival of the fittest, and may actually accept the basic premise of his role as a minister and his Government, to protect the most vulnerable in society.

Ok mate. Are we putting cards on the table? I work in law enforcement and there is absolutely no reason to panic but as I've stated in my post history, there are concerns here. Regarding civil liberties and health. So get off your high horse, stop flinging mud it isn't helpful. Instead try joining the discussion in a helpful manner. And by the way thanks for the work your wife is doing.
Law enforcement?

You’re in the UK? There’s something a bit odd with some of the posters on here at the minute...

Apart from a slightly higher number of old and sick people dying than usual, I fail to understand why the world is losing its marbles over this.

And that's totally respectable. I've said I'm going to work until I feel like I have symptoms. It's in my local community, and if I ever feel like I have the symptoms I'm going to do what you did.

So maybe that's where our situation differ. I'm not pretending to know what it's like wherever you maybe, but it's now circulating in my city with people who haven't left in months.

Edit: except the people get sick and die thing. Yea that's a fact of life, but again, my grandparents are old as hell. My dad is over 60, my friends have older relatives. I don't understand how you can't put a face to some of this. Yes we all die, but don't we also try to prolong an enjoyable for life.

I'm not down with bleep it, he's old. It'd happen sooner or later, I need to go to the pub. Are we that spoiled?

I'm not a believer in the "people are stupid" meme. In fact, I think that generally folks are very intelligent and will self isolate freely. What does concern me however is governments who label their citizens as part of a "herd" That troubles me deeply. Are we to be branded with numbers next?

This is an emergency and it has to be addressed via bipartisan, transparent talks. Pandering into the arms of conspiracy theorists who claim we are merely sheeple will give fuel to the fire.

We are a democracy backed with fortitude and conviction, it's time we acted like one.

...and then you have the idiots in Temple Bar, Dublin, singing Sweet Caroline ...."touching me touching you.."

They will now be in "touch" with parents, uncles Aunts, perhaps elderly neighbours and relations.

FFS - they should be incarcerated in the Curragh Military Camp until this is over.

Because it’s easy to extrapolate the death rates of vulnerable groups to imply that everyone will die, especially if you view it as a Hollywood style killer virus.

It's why I say that we should all take personal responsibility and not be forced into it.

It's always survival of the fittest...and the richest.

There's no vaccine, they know hardly anything about the virus...all they can do is try to control and contain and then study it. It's more likely finish by itself before we get close to developing anything.

So it really just depends on how bad it hits and for long really.

I think it will be catestrophic.

Because highly esteemed medical professionals like Kay Burley and Piers Morgan are having complete meltdowns.

Heartless. Damn. You don't know any elderly people? The world will continue, but I don't understand the complete disregard.

I'm not saying to freak out, but I also don't understand the repulsion of if stuff shuts down to save some lives. And I was always called a capitalist, I'm a fraud.
