Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I had a big argument with my partner on the evening of the 16 March, the day BoJo told everyone to stay at home, avoid non essential travel but didn't close down pubs/restaurants/shops.

We went for a walk and every pub we passed had loads of people in. I said we should be in full lockdown right now and this semi lockdown was going to kill people. She was of the opinion that people were fine to go for a drink and we shouldn't judge.

It was so obvious to me at the time and unfortunately I was completely right, with tens of thousands of deaths the result of BoJo acting too late.

This is why, for me, anyone acting like it is only clear in hindsight is a load of rubbish.

It was obvious, if you understood exponential growth and were willing to actually take the decision.

As I've always said, the public share just as much responsibility. I would have been the same as you in that situation, hence why I've left my house a handful of times during the whole lockdown. At the end of the day, most of us are adults, we should be using our own initiative, not going to the pub, just because it was still a law. Yes, the government have been slow and wrong about a lot, but how much common sense has been applied by the public?

I actually reject that line of reasoning mate.

If it was left to each individual's initiative, we would have suffered many hundreds of thousands of deaths. It isn't possible to get a good outcome based on individualistic responses to a global pandemic.

It is the responsibility of the state to coordinate the collective public response that is required and enforce it as necessary, and the state has demonstrably failed.

i can’t agree with you there .

most people follow their leadership . If they tell you to avoid something but not to not do it And leave places open then people are entitled to Do it and I think you shift the blame from those who should carry it . Shops remain open people will use them , it’s natural .

People using shops is not a significant risk, though.

Retailers have been investing a lot of time and energy into working out how to allow reopening while ensuring social distancing.

sorry my point was broader I just mean the public , the vast majority of them, carry zero blame for this . They follow instructions, I'm unconvinced it’s the public’s job to second guess their elected government.

The way i see it, we're not in school anymore, I'm thick as sh.. But even i know
Its common sense not to only commit to essential travel, as the government were saying. The govt can wrongly lift restrictions, but i know the virus is still rife, so I'm not changing what i'm doing just yet.

Leaders or not, people are still going against guidance and congregating in large numbers, no sense is being applied there.

People voted the Tories in and for Brexit - the public doesn't have any sense

The desire to murder people as part of some form of justice for wrongdoing is a traditionally right wing stance.

Your hero Jezza would be appalled.
I dont 'desire' to do it. I said it would be natural justice if they were. Its Old Testament. An eye for an eye.

Next thing to go will be the essential 2 metre distancing rule, something that apparently halves infection rates.

Some witch doctor will be corralled into explaining the schmience behind the reduction to a metre.
