Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I popped into Tesco on my way home from work yesterday to get something for my lunch and the shelves that have the bags of pasta were empty apart from one remaining bag of spaghetti.

Someone was telling my missus this morning that she was shopping in Morrison's and she bought a couple of packs of those Double Deckers that have 4 in them, and the girl on the till was telling her that the store are limiting them to just 2 packs per customer.
I went to Asda before to pick up a few beers for this evening, and it was absolutely madness. No eggs, chicken, rice, pasta or all that sort of stuff.

Good job I’ll be enjoying my four bottles of real ale later.

Do whatever you think is right but I would suggest getting a bit of grub in because I'm pretty sure this will reach the UK soon.

Things have taken a dramatic turn for the worse.

A draw against United on the final day was enough to stop them from winning the league, with Liverpool coming in to pip them on the final day - but Wimbledon's narrow 1-0 win against Spurs meant that we went down on goal difference.

Obviously you were sacked there and then and now managing a team in league 2?

uhhhhh UK, we aren't even this dumb

It seems odd that a decision was made that could possibly effect millions without the consultation of parliament. Isn't that exactly what their purpose is?

You would presume that during a national emergency that it wouldn't be terribly inconvenient to set up an emergency session.

This idea of herd immunity, is it scientifically sound, does it apply to Covid? Nah sod it let's just let it in and see where the chips land.

Disturbing, unethical and anti-democratic.

Just been to Victoria Sainsbury’s and it was similar, though there was still rice and pasta. The thing that does my head in is that it appeared no one was buying sweets, beer or spirits which makes me think that a load of people in SW1V are either on Lent still or are going to have an absolutely rubbish time when they are all locked down.

We are so used to 24 hour opening here now.

It will come as a huge shock to a few when this changes in the next few weeks.

Hours will be limited to re-stock overnight and with staff off sick, the reliance on self serve etc will make the shopping trip awkward.

I have tried to detail here what has been selling out over the last week or so, but this weekend it's gone mental.

It would be daft not to have 'picked up a few extra bits' for your family as it stands.

Still quite a few spectators at today's race meetings at Kempton and Uttoxeter.

Odd.
(Not aimed at you before I start)

Why? People don’t want to live in fear. It’s a horrible narrative that’s formed in the past few weeks that we should be afraid of everything and everyone. Up until today there’s been more people killed on the road than there has by this virus, yet people still get in their cars and drive to the supermarket to panic buy crap they don’t actually need.

This country, perhaps even the world, seems to have been overcome by this very odd notion that individuals need to become these ingratiating beings for the good of others. Sorry, but it’s not my responsibility to curtail what I do for the fear of infecting someone by proxy somewhere down the line. Follow decent hygiene and all the rest, fine but to say I should be happy to give up my liberties and way of life so that someone at risk doesn’t become critically ill 6 or 7 infections down the line? That’s mental. It’s up to them to look after themselves. It’s like taking cars off the road, booze off the shelves and anything more Calorie loaded than a carrot.

I don’t give a flying one if your granny is 91 and has asthma. Tell her to stay the eff in her house until the threats gone. The rest of us can carry on living.

It’s ridiculous and if you consider how the outbreak will most probably not even peak for a few weeks then it’s even more of a knee-jerk decision.

I went shopping early this morning and came away with some fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, a selection of dips and a loaf of bread: alas, that’s the usual!
