It seems odd that a decision was made that could possibly effect millions without the consultation of parliament. Isn't that exactly what their purpose is?

You would presume that during a national emergency that it wouldn't be terribly inconvenient to set up an emergency session.

This idea of herd immunity, is it scientifically sound, does it apply to Covid? Nah sod it let's just let it in and see where the chips land.

Disturbing, unethical and anti-democratic.

Unfortunately it’s not anti-democratic (not being sarcastic) as the Tory party won resoundingly and we live in a parliamentary democracy.

Why? People don’t want to live in fear. It’s a horrible narrative that’s formed in the past few weeks that we should be afraid of everything and everyone. Up until today there’s been more people killed on the road than there has by this virus, yet people still get in their cars and drive to the supermarket to panic buy crap they don’t actually need.

This country, perhaps even the world, seems to have been overcome by this very odd notion that individuals need to become these ingratiating beings for the good of others. Sorry, but it’s not my responsibility to curtail what I do for the fear of infecting someone by proxy somewhere down the line. Follow decent hygiene and all the rest, fine but to say I should be happy to give up my liberties and way of life so that someone at risk doesn’t become critically ill 6 or 7 infections down the line? That’s mental. It’s up to them to look after themselves. It’s like taking cars off the road, booze off the shelves and anything more Calorie loaded than a carrot.

I don’t give a flying one if your granny is 91 and has asthma. Tell her to stay the eff in her house until the threats gone. The rest of us can carry on living.

You pig ignorant, completely selfish [Poor language removed].

I don't think it's about 'living in fear'.

I do think that we have been badly advised for about a week by the government. ( Madrid fans in Liverpool in the same week the country has now been locked down is nothing short of a scandal ).

This is purely my own opinion, but I see the images of Italy and I just don't think we are getting the real picture here.

Am I panicking? No.
Am I worried ? Yes.

uhhhhh UK, we aren't even this dumb

That is real scary stuff that a quarter of a million people will be sacrificed to achieve that goal.

Or you could delay the spread and you may get to a point where some vaccinations could help. But that won't cut down the total pension bill.... :(

Here's the problem with that mate. The state have been telling people they'll look after them for so long, when the state fail, where do you go faced with decades of indoctrination. The government have declared were going to roll with the herd immunity theory.

That means they're prepared for you and your family members to get the virus, get sick and hopefully survive. So stay at home and don't infect others.

Problem. Didn't you say you were going to "look after us". Nah sorry pal this Darwinism. Good luck.

I’m really sorry you feel that way and sincerely hope you are a minority.

A mate of mine has family in Italy and therefore has family , friends and Facebook /social media contact over there and he has just been saying the Italian reaction to our response so far has included laughter , disbelief , anger and general incredulity.

Have you been on a road, used electricity that’s come from fossil fuels, eaten anything farmed by modern agricultural?

it’s exactly the same mate, you or your actions could or potentially have led to deaths of other people. We’d never do anything.

The problem is that Italy has only been half explained to people. The at risk groups are hugely clustered together in the North of Italy due to huge imbalances in their infrastructure . It’s essentially been an ideal breeding ground. Cases in the South of Italy have been far fewer (and have been mainly people returning from family in the North.)

This is not just a problem for the old. Sorry to put it in these terms but what if someone you love, say a parent, has a heart attack and your local hospital is floor to celling full of coronavirus patients and the staff have been in crisis mode for at least a month. The survival rate for that person is going to below normal levels, up to and including they may get the virus while recovering and at their most vulnerable.

By changing your behaviour you can help minimise that spread. If you and everyone who think like that continue with I'm alright Jack, you could find out in a terrible way that is not actually the case. We all have a duty of care, like it or not.

@Mrtallywacker can you spare a few words from the Good Book for this lost sheep who has wandered off the path of humanity?
