So I have a dry cough now, and a bad head. I don't feel like my temperature has increased, but I am letting a bit of wee out when I cough and sneeze - so I think I'm getting the muscle fatigue. Called NHS Direct, advised me to continue self-isolating, and drink plenty of fluids.

Luckily, I've rekindled my love for early era Championship Manager, and am bravely fighting against relegation with a front two of Don Hutchinson and Phil Jevons. Wish me luck gentleman, we're going to need it.
Hope you feel better soon mate

One thing that seems to be taken for granted is that people will actually self isolate and do the right thing.

I hadn`t considered this until I spoke with my mate who is a cabbie and he said there was NO WAY he`d be self isolating if he displayed any symptoms, as he couldn`t afford to be off the road for any length of time.

He said most of the lads who work for his firm were of the same opinion.

There must be many many more people who are in the same boat and will just ignore all advice and carry on due to financial necessity.

What a mess.

the sad thing for him is that its going to be taken out of his hands given that his customers will start staying home, unless the lockdown is total and they start hiring drivers to deliver food (in which case theyll all be health screened anyway)

The r0 of Coronavirus is in the high 3s, whereas Ebola is estimated to be anywhere between 1.8 and 2.1.

Edit: Also, people in the Congo are far less likely to travel to the degree those in the global North are.

because it’s ability transmit is far easier than that of Ebola. But the death rate of one is far far more catastrophic than the other.

It’s hit mainland Europe, people think it’s a superbug that’s is going turn everyone into zombies and have now emptied shelves in supermarkets because they are absolute morons.

if a real dangerous infectious disease came anywhere close to mainland Europe if seriously fear how quickly the entire continent would crumble

And that’s the issue, nothing to do with anything else other than people’s own ineptitude.
He’ll take god knows how much cash throughout his shift, he contracts it off his first customer and then sees another 20-30 people that night, then those 20-30 people come into contact with another 20-30 people. Before you know it....

Yep any new virus is always going to be worse and easier to pick up than pre-existing ones until the population build up immunity to it.

flu for example still kills hundreds of thousands of people per year yet people are not running around emptying the food stores each winter.

The sad reality is that due to no vaccine it puts the elderly and those with ill health in danger in the coming weeks/months.

While not wanting to be antagonistic or downplay the Ebola crisis, there are many reasons why Covid-19 is more worrying and it's not about race etc.

its managed properly by the WHO with constant notification and resilience plans implemented. But with Ebola outbreak of 2016 it was desperately close to becoming a global issue.

After sitting on numerous strategic meetings this week, with PHE and local resilience forums it’s evident that the main issue is people’s intolerance to follow basic instructions

Completely true.

Where I work I could ring in saying I'm isolated as the Mrs is sick. Which is true, think she has caught the flu right when this is kicking off (so she is convinced it's more ). By the government advice I need to ring in work and not come in for a week

If I do that , what happens 3 weeks later if I get sick? Remnants of my wife's flu? Then a few weeks later actually catch covid-19?

Guarantee you I'd be sacked for all that leave.

Saying that , so easy to take the proverbial and say you are sick when you aren't.
