TBF it doesn't; unless you test everyone and do it repeatedly it just tells you who has it - by the time the tests been authorised (ie: after they feel ill) they've been walking around spreading it for some time.

However, they will hide behind just the confirmed cases and proclaim their actions was justified.

I think you are right If we go into lockdown unfortunately. You could use the time to set up your own specialist recruitment company for the inevitable boom that will follow though.....

I've stayed out of this thread for the sake of my sanity, but aren't the government following the advice of the chief medical expert(s)? I'm sure I saw an interview or two yesterday where the said person explained what they're doing and why they're doing it. Is he the wrong sort of expert?

Yes on the experts bit I was referring to Trump. For Johnson I found his strap line advice full of the usual bluff and bluster compounding my fear he'll revert to his Brexit model of leadership.

Even if all COVID-19 deaths aren't registered as such, any large number of deaths will show up in the overall stats. There's normally something like 600k deaths a year ( in the UK I think, but it might be England and Wales ), if COVID-19 adds 100k+ to that number, then there'll be nowhere to hide it.

Obviously, people might come up with a conspiracy theory to say that the stats will be fudged to reduce the overall number, but I reckon those people would be fruitcakes.

Without being an expert whatsoever, in the 4 days or so since Italy shut everything down, the number of cases has continued to rise just as it did beforehand. Not sure how long it's supposed to be before such an action stops the virus.
