You know when this Government line is an appeal to compassion that they're completely in the wrong.

In a separate note, I bet the FOI people at Durham Constabulary will be in for a busy week....

No I think they are playing this the right way. Let the media and the public go after him over the Bank Holiday and then blammo it all next week and PQs.

Cummings is unlikely to quit over this, so better to use him (and keep using him) as a totem of hypocrisy
You get the impression Starmer will want the facts first, which is the grown up thing to do. Not sure that fits with british politics but i don't mind it myself

Dominic Cummings claims he behaved 'reasonably', adding: it's not about what you guys think

Dominic Cummings has insisted he behaved "reasonably and legally" after travelling to County Durham during the lockdown and doesn't care how it looks.

Asked by reporters if his lockdown trip from his London home "looked good", Boris Johnson's chief aide said: “Who cares about good looks? It’s a question of doing the right thing."

He then added: "It’s not about what you guys think.”

Actually, I’m warming to the guy. He isn’t a spin doctor like that cretin Campbell, and his reaction to a family problem is what we would all do. I am beginning to see why Boris keeps him.......

NHS England has announced 157 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 25,545.

Of the 157 new deaths announced on Saturday:

– 30 occurred on May 22
– 81 occurred on May 21
– 19 occurred on May 20

The figures also show 24 of the new deaths took place between May 1 and May 19, and the remaining three deaths took place in April with the earliest new death on April 22.

Expect a dead cat to be thrown onto the table tonight from Murder Incorporated's press conference:

"We can announce today that we have a super duper new anti-body test that can be rolled out in days to 64 million people in the UK - it's a game changer"

So you would have done the same?

A Tory minister has sparked outcry on Twitter after suggesting that Dominic Cummings' son could have been "taken into state care" if he had not travelled 260 miles to Durham.

Simon Clarke, the MP for Middlesborough South and East Cleveland, cited Downing Street's statement this morning that Boris Johnson's most senior aide made the trip - which allegedly breached lockdown rules - to "ensure his young child could be properly cared for".

Disgraceful to even suggest this in defence of Cummings.
I feel sorry for that kid; imagine having Nosferatu putting you to bed at night and leaning over you with his pus-filled gums and gnashers. He should be taken away from that.

It’s like they’re competing to be the most odious and appalling

I know you're winding people up as you've no way to excuse his behaviour, but what message do you think that sends to someone who may have had a parent die and been unable to visit them in the final moments?

And the thing is, we all. Wouldn't have done it. I was incredibly ill in February and I didn't take my daughter to my parents house. YOU would've because you consider yourself an exception to the rule, which is probably why you don't think it's a big issue - because you see a kindred spirit in Cummings, but no doubt you'll decry the other 'idiots' ignoring the Government advice to suit their own notions of what's acceptable.

I don't understand why all these people are falling on their swords to protect someone who would be the first person to stab them in the back
