Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

If he believed that driving to his parents house to be around family was in the best interests of his own children as he was sick, why wasn’t the government telling everyone else to do the same thing?

You only need to self isolate if you don’t have kids. If you do, then you are totally cool to go wherever you please.
Because they literally made it a crime

Pete only takes note of the Telegraph, Guido Fawkes and the graffiti in his pub toilet*

*I'll leave you to decide which is the most credible source
Pete's an alright chap, my views are always going to be from a patient centred point of view, and his will be from a right wing point of view. I hate the NHS business side of things, and I know public spend will always be an issue, but I truly see it being neglected over the last few years, and staff straining to cover gaps in the 6 hospitals I've worked in.

He's a monster!

Wtf are labour playing at, they should be demanding Cummings goes, ridiculous.

That would have been the response twelve months ago and would please core Labours, but if you play the "wait for the facts to come out" card, you allow the Tories to give themselves enough rope. Then, after due consideration, hit them with a considered argument showing all the inconstencies in the story, not least the article in the Spectator by Cummings' missus.

Bloody shame that parliament's in recess.

My husband did rush home to look after me. He’s an extremely kind man, whatever people assume to the contrary. But 24 hours later, he said ‘I feel weird’ and collapsed. I felt breathless, sometimes achy, but Dom couldn’t get out of bed. Day in, day out for ten days he lay doggo with a high fever and spasms that made the muscles lump and twitch in his legs. He could breathe, but only in a limited, shallow way.

After a week, we reached peak corona uncertainty. Day six is a turning point, I was told: that’s when you either get better or head for ICU. But was Dom fighting off the bug or was he heading for a ventilator? Who knew? I sat on his bed staring at his chest, trying to count his breaths per minute. The little oxygen reader we’d bought on Amazon indicated that he should be in hospital, but his lips weren’t blue and he could talk in full sentences, such as: ‘Please stop staring at my chest, sweetheart.’

@Barnfred 55

When we were talking yesterday and I suggested that the economy was more important to this Government than saving lives and you said

I'm curious in light of Cummings story, given his position as part of SAGE and the PMs special advisor, if you still disagree?
100% yes

Cummings arrogance and stupidity has no bearing on it IMO. Other senior ministers blind defence of his actions does not undo what the government has already done. IMO

You disagree of course so let's leave it there, neither of us will change the other persons mind.

I‘m really not having a go. It’s just that I prefer facts rather than someone else’s interpretations, I can do the interpretation myself if presented with the facts.....Obviously the NHS is not a waste of money nor resources, but you and I know that the NHS does indeed waste money...but perhaps for a different thread....
Sometimes a figure really doesn't represent what goes on in a place of work. Pete, you're a pub owner- would you say complaints about NHS care have increased over the years- particularly waiting times, access to Doctors ect? It's not because the doctors/teams are slacking off, nor generally middle managers are pissing money against the wall (though at some point I do have one story of how a group of hospitals near pissed a few mill up the wall after a jolly put on by a company flogging something).
Essentially healthcare isn't, and can not be treated like a business, there's so many more layers to it, and yes the NHS is the largest employer in the world.
I've gotta go scrub the house clean, at the wife's behest for a celebration that no one can attend tomorrow anyhow. Have a lovely weekend, and hope it's less blustery were you are.

Because they know that Photo’s such as this .....

and a myriad of other stuff will come out.....Politicians are very careful about throwing stones in glass houses......

It's not been flagged yet for some reason, but his wife works for the Spectator and has written several articles about them getting Corona virus and staying at their London home making cardboard castle as a family - no mention at all of not being able to look after the daughter or needing to make a trip to newcastle
I read that article last night as someone linked it. It's incredibly personal in tone and detailed about a lot of the worry and hardship they went through at the time. Surprising that at no point in an article like that is the drive to Durham mentioned.

Year in, year out, the money spent on the NHS has increased in real terms, but the combinations of an increasing population, an aging, unhealthy population and ( for various reasons ) medical inflation running higher than national inflation means the increased funding doesn't fill the gap, so you're both right.

Might I suggest you apply this rigor in your own postings

I'm not trying to. I was just just curious as to if it had influenced your stance.
