No, as I hope you are aware - as although there doesn't seem to be any depths you won't sink to save face - you seem reasonably intelligent. I'm equating one example of mistaken caution vs another and suggesting that giving people advice that can cause harm but done with the best of intentions is commendable but still mistaken.

You do know he`s never ever, not even once admitted he`s ever been wrong don`t you lol

He can keep this going for years and in the end you`ll either put him on ignore or die from the boredom of fighting a circular argument with him.

Dont point the finger at me simply because you cant express yourself.

If you have a point, I'm happy to read it. But you apparently dont. Why I received abuse for your inadequacy is beyond me.

Anyway, it's "The Coronavirus Thread"...

I don't think the reporting of the governments handling has been overly positive, nor do I believe it's been overly negative. It's been in this gray wishy-washy try to please everybody in one report style of journalism.

The issue is that anyone can draw any inference from any report pretty much, people aren't as clued up as journalism seems to dissuade that nowadays.

Dave 22 May:
I just want everyone to be as cautious as possible

Also Dave:
It's pure hysteria being generated. The virus is a danger to the extreme elderly and people with chronic underlying health conditions - those people usually at risk from the common flu.

I dont want to suggest it should be treated blithely, but the scale and tone of this reporting is appalling.

Pete do you not read the papers or watch the news? The reporting of this crisis has been incredibly positive of the government, with announcements trumpeted no matter how ridiculous.

I honestly have seen nothing that would be regarded as ‘positive’ towards the government. I accept that announcements can be trumpeted a bit, but I’ve always felt that’s because of the criticism they have been getting....

Italy banned flights from China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan on January 31st. SPI-M-O knew that air travel would spread the disease. as they added the warning to their 10 February report and the subsequent 17th February one. If SAGE knew air travel would spread the disease why wasn't it acted upon from February 10th by the government?

SAGE decided to removed any reference to this section in its previous reports from its March 2nd report,

"Relative risk of epidemics in other countries 17. The relative risk of cases in countries outside China has been shown to be correlated with air passenger levels. Countries with a higher volume of travel to and from China have been more likely to experience cases Whilst it is to be expected that this will continue to be the case, transport patterns are changing, so the relative risk is expected to as well". Heavy air traffic between the UK and China made it more 'likely to experience cases' and they did nothing. No checks/tests at airports for flights arriving from China. Incredible. Ironically they did check people coming from certain African countries during the Ebola crisis. .Cummings was aregular attendee at SAGE meetings what influence did he have on this removal of passenger numbers from China?

Chris Whitty gave a lecture on 27th February at the Nuffield Trust and castigated the media over stopping air travel, when he said, ' banned flights will only delay the spread by a 15 days, but would be a lot of banning'. 49.40. This was when they were talking about the 'delay stage'. In 15 days tens of Nightingale hospitals could have been built, as they should have done in late February early March.

Why have the government now done a complete volte face and decide to talk about checks and quarantining people coming into this island? Blaming all and sundry, the NHS, cliciians, the civil service, PHE, Sage, the public but it will not help Johnson and his cohorts and neither will NHS bashing and throwing clinicians under the bus. Johnson and his government owns this debacle and its unnecessary suffering of people and their ring fenced care home death traps.

This quarantine fine thing is just a way of letting the rich travel and forcing the less well off to stay stuck at home. Fines never work as a deterrent cos they have no impact on the wealthy. Typical Tory approach again.

While it's never to late to quarantine they should have done that in February when they knew air travel with China would bring the virus to the UK. But they chose not to check anyone coming in from hotspots like China, Italy, Spain, New York, France etc.

I do not doubt these concerns were raised. But what I find bizarre is given the volume of anti government stuff posted in here that nobody bothered to post anything about this if it were such an issue. Plenty of people on here are health workers or have close relatives who are.

I would also question what happened to those concerns. Did they even reach cabinet level or were they lost somewhere.within departmental bureaucracy? Something we'll have to wait for the inquest to confirm Ii
Imagine

The law of averages says that there must be people on here who are health care workers, in the medical profession, involved in the chain of manufacture and supply of PPE, involved in local government, the police, etc, you can go on all day long.

Have you considered that the reason that they may not have posted anything to rebut some of the crazy stuff posted on here, is that as lurkers and occasional posters, they may not have the confidence to post for fear of being shouted down as a TORY, DEATH, SCUM, MURDERER, if their views don`t fit with the agenda of a few on here.

The likes of @LinekersLegs @RAFUH @Neiler @tsubaki @DrEFC @JEBUS_LIVES @Catfish Blues between them collectively post some excellent informative, balanced and measured stuff on this thread, but the counter balance to that is the few others who shout down anyone who`s views don`t fit with theirs and unfortunately I`d say that these are the ones who are putting off other people who have genuine stuff to add to this thread off posting.
