You really have not got a clue Pete
Leo sees this as a opportunity to be seen as a leader who will take the tough decisions to get things done
If he comes out of this well and things work out ok,he will force another election which he is hoping to win
This is his once chance at glory
Look at what the rest of Europe is doing
The body count at the end of this will determine weather Leo or Boris got this right

I think you are agreeing with what I said tbh....Varadkar is indeed ‘doing what the rest of Europe are doing’ but they are several weeks ahead of Ireland, he will waste 3 weeks of the economy.....

I might have missed it, but I havn't seen any real criticism of the governments / scientists strategy from Corbyn, McDonnell or anyone in the shadow cabinet ?

If that's the case, there's an implication that the party's being kept in the loop on the thinking behind the strategy. Even when Sturgeon announced that Scotland was shutting down largeish events, it was done more with the view of making sure emergency services were being used efficiently rather than it being on public health grounds.

Indeed, the only politicians who are jumping up and down are Johnson’s defeated contenders for the leadership.....

Italy acted too late
Spain acted too late
They both admitted that
Ireland is learning from their mistakes
Britain is not

Perhaps, but we will find out .....neither you nor I know what is right or not, we have gut feelings but this is one where I’m quite relaxed about letting the CMO and the CSA take the reins.....

To be fair to the scientists, whether or not their model is correct, they've really gone out on a limb on this. It would have been much easier just to follow the rest of Europe and implement social distancing now, no-one would have batted any eyelid if they'd done that.

We'll not know if they were right or wrong for some time, not only will we have to wait until cases have dropped off here, we're also have to wait to see if other countries ( or the UK ), get a second peak before anti-virals and vaccines are available.

If it was just about the economy, and the scientists didn't actually believe their model, but were being pushed by the government to say otherwise, then the economic impact would just be pushed down the line by a few months, so I'd say the scientists believe what they're telling us. They're either men with balls of steel, or they're idiots. I prefer the first option.
Well like it says, people start suffering from self-isolation fatigue and whatnot. I can understand their reasoning for wantimg to delay more serious measures.

Unfortunately, we're going to see party political dogma getting in the way of sound decision making.

The freaks propping up Johnson wont bat an eyelid at putting a percentage of our population at risk in order to avoid throwing the full force of the state at this...which is the only thing that can effectively tackle it.

At this moment in time, the strategy seems to be supported by all of the U.K. political parties.....

To be fair thats the gamble of Johnson. He has gambled it won't be too serious, and his hands off approach will work. He may be proven spectacularly right, but he's playing high stakes poker.

This really....

Prepare to be vaulted Pete - it's gonna get ugly.

Just got back from the co-op and the shelves are bare! No bread, no eggs, no butter, no pasta, no tinned stuff left. Loads of alcohol though...Happy days!

See you on the other side!

Indeed, but we could all hibernate then come out and catch it anyway. The Scientists and Medics believe this may be an annual type virus in which case we both need vaccines and an ability for our bodies to get used to it and fight it. Everyone staying at home just reduces the money available to defeat it while still being susceptible. I’m no medic, but what they are proposing at least seems logical in my mind.....
For me what the WHO is proposing sounds more logical but guess we’ll see.

As it stands, we havnt a clue who acted too late, too early, rightly or wrongly.

I can see the logic in the "ban travel, shut everything down asap" approach, but then I see "experts" saying that might be counter productive, in the fullness of time.

The only thing I am comfortable with is that the UK Government appear to have a plan. Which appears to be based on science, not the internet.

Time will tell.

It is chilling the way that the coming deaths are being used in such a blasé fashion, it's the economy, and that this modelling is being blindly followed by Tory Corporal Jones just because the PM Johnson Chief Medical Officer say so.
