If there is a strike or protest you can guarantee the teachers are right at the front of it.

Kids, especially those from the poorest backgrounds, need to get back to school.

Teachers... do what you are paid to do or go and get another job.

If ever a post highlighted the sort of moron we have to contend with whilst trying to come out of this in a sensible manner it's this fella.

I appreciate his frustration is largely borne out of the fact that he hasn't been able to lob his slobbering carcus over a prozzie for 8 weeks, but we must be vigilant and pull these mutants up for their misguided views.

No there isn't. Apart from scale, the only difference that matters is the willingness to listen.

Can I ask what you do, or did, for a living?

The scale would be a major issue. It would consume significant resource, resource that would be pulled from other work streams.

Government also has embedded specialists and experts, and the budgets to bring in further support where required.

It is also unlikely a trawl through submissions from the public would result in something original, relevant and applicable, that considered all of the complexity, nuance and detail, that would not have already been considered by the experts and specialists.

I work for a Central Government Department in Whitehall.

I don't know about proving her wrong but a study recently reported on by the NY Times that took place in Germany showed children testing positive for the virus harbour just as much virus as adults. It's difficult to see how the virus they harbour should be different to that of the adults and in some way be unable to be transmitted.
The argument being that the younger children in this particular age group, for some reason, only get mild doses and that these might not be virulent. I haven't seen the German study and have no personal stance or agenda on this. They are learning things about this virus all the time. She'd said previously that scientists have done a lot of work on this specific matter but so far have been unable to confirm one way or the other, but I have no idea whether this was before or after the German study.

Well on the road to independence, and hastened by Brexit... Much prefer a union of some type with United Ireland Scotland and Wales, politically and culturally very similar and different to England. English have brought into some fanciful far right Imperialism of the past.

Let them go they'll soon come crawling back when they haven't the cushy handouts by the UK government.

Scotland in particular is like that moody teenager moaning about their parents rules whilst living under said roof paid for by mummy and daddy.

Crikey, I consider myself lucky getting off so lightly with common sense...

As the Swedish epidemiologist said yesterday, lockdown measures are only ever a stopgap measure to ensure health systems aren't overwhelmed. The problem in Britain seems to be that many regard lockdown measures as something that was supposed to stop the virus dead in its tracks, and we would return to normal after the lockdown ended. I'm not sure that was ever the deal on the table.

If nothing else though, it really did stop the NHS being overwhelmed. It also bought time to get organised (no laughing at the back) or to continue to get organised. I’d just like us to get a test and find out we’ve already had it tbh....

In other 'no laughing at the back' news, the Czech health minister has said today that masks will be mandatory in restaurants, except when you're eating or drinking. He also said that masks will be mandatory at swimming pools, except when you're actually swimming. Well thought through

Oh yes I’ve been slobbering over pizza and prossies for the whole 8 weeks mate.

Don’t worry about that. I heard you were still highly active in the dogging scene. At least you get it for free matey.

Unlike doctors, nurses and the armed forces, teachers signed up to teach, not put their health and lives at risk.

Social distancing for kids in a school setting is completely impossible. We have a situation where the government won't let adults go a restaurant or pub because of the risks involved, yet are happy for a bunch of 5 year olds to mingle.

No, it's bollocks. The whole thing is bollocks. It's being driven by money, not science.

Do we know how much teaching is being done at the moment? Back in April the National Education Union advised teachers not to conduct classes over video link.

“Teachers cannot be working as though they are sat in front of a class, and children cannot be expected to be able to study full time with online resources.”

A poll conducted by Teacher Tapp found that just 2% of state schools were conducting live lessons during the lockdown.

There's a very ugly undercurrent of nationalism emerging throughout all of this. Very ugly.
I don't think there will be a vaccine, no other coronvirus has a vaccine and not for the lack of trying. They'll come up with an injection and claim it to be 80% effective and hope that we'll forget that over 80% of people have no or very mild symptoms regardless.

The one thing I don't get is that the kids will only be going to school for a month? Is it really worth risking kids/teachers health (and everyone who comes into contact with them) for one month in school.
My thoughts exactly.

Why not bring the Summer holidays forward by a month , then restart school in August ....if safe to do so.

Pushing this smacks of it being some sort of moral boost .....crazy situation.

Really.

I think teachers are well aware that they work in an environment where they are surrounded by unhygienic, unwashed, germ infested beings on a daily basis.

Let’s not kid ourselves.

I thought that was a good idea but it would never be agreed to. They won't agree to move the holidays.
