Indeed, and I have stated that they screwed up their initial strategy. They had been on the back foot for a while, they screwed up the PPE and Testing. But then it started to come right. As you say they got the furlough right. But the problem is that those on here who criticise the government, really just mean Boris and a few Cabinet members, they forget that it included the CS, PHE and the NHS together with all the people actioned to get PPE and Testing in place. The government, and I mean in its widest sense, screwed up for a little while, but then improved, and continue to improve.....

Collective cabinet responsibility for effective policy underpins our system of Government.

I take your point that there are systems in place below the Government, which of course will introduce issues and challenges to effective implementation of policy.

This wider public sector is separate from Government however and can't share in the praise and criticism of decisions made, or not made, in Cabinet.

On the improvement point, I think that is still up for debate within a public health context. Death figures are now coming down but we will have to see how the easing of the lockdown goes.

I think it is fair to say that the communication of the easing was received poorly by many, which Government has to take responsibility for. I recognise it is an admittedly difficult task, as the new line that is drawn will always have parts that seem arbitrary and daft.

Overall, I think the initial mistakes have had such huge consequences that Government can never be said to have done a good job overall in response to this pandemic.

The best Government can hope for is an acknowledgement of a good job in suppressing a second wave.

I am also very curious, having lost my sense of taste and smell for a while in March.

It could be a long time before it is available for free from the NHS for the wider community however.

Agreed.

Us mere plebs will be the last in line, if we get one at all.

Great story.... if only it were true. He turned up last weekend with the family, the second time in the past 6 weeks. He’s not been living there as stated above.

*according to locals in the village

With all due respect, i don’t think the word of “locals” is enough to justify the comments I’ve seen about him and his family on twitter.

Talk about mob rule.
