I don't see the relevance in comparing different countries, different societies and different types of lockdwon myself.

I find it quite interesting to compare different societies and attitudes within those societies - mainly because I think us Brits are massive knobheads and I think we'll struggle to come out of this much more than our ex-European neighbours

Yeh you could say it's interesting looking at how other countries have reacted to this but personally comparing numbers is very pointless.

Just been out for my usual daily afternoon bike ride - I reckon road traffic has increased up 50% from just yesterday.
Pretty sure most are just milling around just because they can now and the local garden centre looked rammed.
Project herd immunity well underway it would seem :(

It was always going to happen.

The way the media published all those stories last week, Boris the Butchers appalling "cull to the nation", Operation take it on the chin is GO.

If you look at historical death rates over the year then you will see that they are very stable. The reason why I suggested using 1 year/2 year periods is that there will be a large number of people who have died from the virus that would have died this year without it but just at a later date.

that’s why I was suggesting looking at it over a longer period. Death rates from other causes is actually fairly confident if you look at the actual stats.

id say annualised excess deaths over the next 2 years or so above and beyond the 10 year average will give you a pretty close to the true impact of the virus. Although this would include collateral effects which could be attributed to the virus too (mental health issues due to lockdown etc).
Yeah I agree. I'm guilty of not reading your post properly. Soz

A lot of people are putting excess deaths down to covid and I just think that's a dangerous assumption when we could be missing so many natural causes deaths, some of which could possibly be avoided if they got early medical attention.

More than half of care home places are comprised of nursing beds and the average occupancy of nursing beds is under 12 months. So it's fair to assume that over half of care home occupants will die this year anyway and maybe we will see a reduction in average deaths later in the year. Doesn't make it any easier on the families mind, nor the care home staff who will be suffering too because they do get emotionally attached to the residents.

Very good point on the mental health fall out of this too. I wouldn't be shocked if suicides soared

You can't touch it how do you lift it out it either stays in or they leave it out or do you personally levitate the flag out without touching it?
are you like David Blaine.... the Magician..... lol

Or just boot it out the hole and kick it back in once you are done

Baffled how I havent murdered somebody during this whole thing me.

So many people are lucky I dont want to touch them.

Felt like that myself mate when I went out this morning to get some bits, woman came out of a side road coughing and spluttering loudly and openly, luckily I was in good distance away

On that though, really quiet round my way traffic wise, Breck Road was pretty empty for cars and was able to get into and around Asda and Home Bargains without having to queue which was handy, went to both and back in about 90mins without needing public transport

The bumped into this guy from the below story again last week in the shop, he did the same stuff and I proper kicked off at him this time. Gonna slash his tyres next time I see his taxi.

Just been to my local Co-Op for some toiletries and was queuing up in the very first aisle waiting for an old lady in front to pick up her veg. Feel a knock and this fat, alcohol and ciggie honking Scottish taxi driver barges past me and then barges past the old lady. Watch him as he ignores the arrows on the aisles, watch him pick things up then put them back etc. I was absolutely fuming. These are the kinda people that I wish would get the virus but bet they don't.

You can do all you can to avoid getting this thing but there will always be people that make it harder than it needs to be.
