I'm sure I read that buses were only supposed to let so many passengers onto the bus. Bus companies said because of running costs it wouldn't work and would end up crippling them, the government said they would work with those companies and provide a subsidy.
Also, there's still only half the amount of public transport running in London as normal (or at least tubes) - surely if people are going back to work then to avoid everything being packed there needs to be more on?
This is part of the problem. The buses and trains have been running a skeleton system for a while, so like every other business, probably had trouble after the announcement on Sunday, to start getting more staff back to work to increase the services within a couple of days. Im sure their staff are scared, Unions will be working on a plan and other stuff may be happening.
So telling thousands of people to head back to work, knowing full well a huge majority use public transport, at short notice when the transport safety and numbers isnt in place is disgusting.
Then there has to be some form of those people getting back to work, unless they are being furloughed of course.
If the issue in London atm is packed public transport, then the amount of public transport available maybe needs to be increased back to or close to its normal standard.
That is not the government's remit as far as I'm aware - ironically enough I think it became the Mayor's responsibility during Johnson's tenure.
See above.
Oh deffo mate. The funny thing is those people who are saying the government should be forking out money all over the gaff through this pandemic (and rightly so) will be the same people whinging and slagging the government off to death if they do a tax hike.
Bet the MP's arnt included in the Public Sector pay freeze though. Wouldnt be suprised if it also included nurses and doctors even after what they have done during this.
Maybe a start would be trying to get some of them offshore trillions back would be a start but we know that wont happen
