Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Over the past few days we've been inundated with amateur scientists bemoaning the guidelines that have been amended - Almost everybody complaining that the guidance is incorrect and ill-advised.

What I haven't seen a lot of is what we SHOULD be doing instead - So i'm asking you lot, what should we do differently?

I'm no Tory apologist - I can't stand them or their leader - but I haven't seen much in the way of alternative ideas coming out of this.

The rest of Europe are easing lockdowns and getting back to work but seem to be exempt from criticism.

Are we leaving lockdown too early? Was the lockdown ever really in place? Are other countries doing things differently than we are and we should be copying them?

What should we be doing?
I’d be suggest we do similar to other EU countries but when we have a daily average death and infection rate similar to theirs. To do it earlier seems reckless.

I’d also endure that our testing capacity is improved and importantly ensure the testing is used effectively.

I live in Argyll and we have had very little of it. It’s been hard for folk to understand as there is so little evidence of it around here. However there are reports am that half a care team in a home in a local town have been tested and have it with no symptoms. For it to be there it has to be in way more places than we think. I bet there’s a strong chance that way more of us have had it then realise. It’ll be interesting to see who has had it and who hasn’t if the get an antibody test. Either way it seems Nicola has got it right to keep us locked down for longer.

This year apparently. I didn't watch but was on This Morning a friend said. Completely goes against what the CMO said last night haha.

I know nothing about vaccines obviously.

But surely no one knows when one will come. We'll only know when someone works it out and proves it works. Not sure how anyone can say a date with any certainty

read this article in today’s Guardian, it explains what we should be doing and why some people are questioning the government responsible:

But as vague and wooly as BJ's speech was, didn't he say exactly that?

That there needed to be more testing and tracing for those next steps to be lifted?
