You can read that and report back, because I sure did not read it
Thanks that's today sorted

Sounds like job retention scheme to be extended till 30 Sept, but reduced to 60% with some sort of mechanism to allow part time work.

As ever, the detail will be what matters but good that it seems to be staying on. It's not sustainable long term to pay more on wages than the NHS, but a phased removal of the scheme over time is far better than an abrupt end on 30 June.

I do still worry about how many could be laid off when it ends, regardless of how long it goes on.

I understand the burden the scheme will be having on the Treasury now and in the long-term, so there needs to be a cautious transition back to work for many.

Nevertheless, I can't help but feel sorry for the people who'll have to make the difficult decision of whether they can survive on 60% of their pay or to stay safe.

Like you say, the devil is in the detail because it'll be interesting to see how it'll accommodate park time work, otherwise I suspect many will be forced back to work.

The roads around South Liverpool are even busier this morning than they were yesterday: we're not at a normal rate, but it's creeping closer to normal by the day.

I would hope that firms are encouraged to pay maybe 20% or something, which they don't currently have to do. 60% is still a fairly generous subsidy, but getting the right the balance is going to be hard.

Any changes today shouldn't apply until 1 July so hopefully things are a lot better by then and lots can get back to work safely.

It will be interesting to see what happens (globally) when the virus returns in the autumn. Hopefully the money tree will still have a few leaves on it.

The government's return to school is an experiment to see what happens, they are using children and their teachers, teaching staff and other staff, parents and carers as guinea pigs. 47 teachers and assistants have died due to coronavirus. It's incumbent on the government and the 'experts' to inform the great British public how they caught the virus and if they'd transmitted it into schools and onto those in their care. Children can catch the virus and will spread it around to anyone who is in contact with them, staff and family. It's up to the teaching unions to set out whether they want to be part of a grand experiment and whether it's safe to do so. Those at work have the right to refuse to work if they feel it is unsafe to do so.
