It does seem a bit of a weird priority, I have to say.

Like I can buy the idea that if they loosen the lock down, (sic), and encourage more folk back to work, then making cycling and that more easier than a train or a tube is not the worst idea ever.

Just not sure if you have to get a bus train or tube to work, you would have to be Chris Hoy to be able to cycle there anyrate.
It's surreal: we had a man who's name is not his real name delivering a promise about new cycle lanes and bus lanes when he cant even provide protective gloves, gowns and masks to people working on the front line.

The ever deceptive weekend figure, predicting by Tuesday the figure will be high 7-800s then drop again
Of course it will be. This is a figure massaged down so that the murderous clown can get an easy hearing tomorrow when he announces another instalment of the dogs breakfast of a strategy he's been pursuing.

I remember they built a pavement on the A41 heading towards the Countess a couple of years ago. Took about 6 months and had a lane shut either side for 3 of them. Never seen anyone walking on the pavement since. Sounds just like what the country needs Grant. That and more cyclists.

I must admit, that whenever I have discussed this mess with Mrs R or my parents, the issue of narrow pavements and a lack of cycle lanes has not been raised.

It seems a shark jumping moment.

The cycle lane "policy" was never intended to be a C-19 fix and has been in train (ahem) for years. But it's been hijacked and repurposed rather cynically for a quick win.

The dangers of reactionary policy making.

Its disgusting.

As you say its currently 9-9 on the penalty shoot out and neither team looks like missing.
Have to say was feeling pretty confident of taking home the cup with the “inject bleach” message but the “bigger pavements/cycle lanes”, whilst understated, might just be the winner as it appears they are going to try to implement it?!

Not a chance they will waste 2billion trying to get the fattest nation in Europe to ride bikes.

Try and make people fitter or give MPs another pay rise, which option you think will go through?

I've just read reports of police complaining about "fighting a losing battle" with thousands of people congregating in public parks and on beaches, etc. But I don't get it... I thought the police have the power to issue fines?

Strange.

How would it be enforced? On the spot fines are incredibly difficult to recover. People can't be forced to provide proof of address at that point.

I am no supporter of the coppers at the best of times, but if they mounted a Peterloo-type charge at couple hundred 'partying' they'd have my blessing.

That said, it's the Government Ministers who briefed all the press last week to get the 'business as usual soon' headlines out there who I'd like to see on the end of a 'kin sabre.

Piece of cake. Sure Oxford Street will be transformed by next Saturday.

To be fair, central London is incredibly quiet at the moment. The only people we saw around Piccadilly, Leicester Square, Covent Garden etc. today were homeless folk. Not scientific at all, but many gave the impression that they were newly homeless (clean clothes, yet wearing far more than was necessary for the weather with several bags on them).

Incidentally, there was a plan to pedestrianise Oxford Street a while back, that was popular with locals, but got squashed by Westminster Council.

So the most diverse City in England is observing lockdown and the North has gone full tribal.

Interesting.
