As I mentioned in a previous post, the SAGE committee are purely there to provide scientific advise to the government. No more, no less.
Well let's hope that in the fall out to this and the enquiry that follows, that the role of SAGE is brought into question. Because there is no doubt in my mind that it has failed badly so far with this particular crisis.

As mentioned, these groups are primarily interested in understanding the virus, not producing a response to it.
Well if it isn't Sage advising the government on this, only providing information on what they are facing, the question remains, Who is advising the government
on it?

Maybe the remit and role of SAGE needs revising for future emergencies

Good, some of the tests seemed very inaccurate.
The Food and Drug Administration is walking back a widely criticized policythat allowed more than 100 coronavirus antibody tests onto the market without agency review.

Manufacturers of antibody tests must now apply for emergency use authorization within 10 business days after their products hit the market, under a policy announced Monday. If a test does not meet the FDA's specificity and sensitivity criteria, its manufacturer must suspend distribution.

Yes. They counted any test that have left the centre.
So the most recent stats I am aware of the gave the headline of 76k but had only actually *tested* 56k.
That's plain stupid. All he had to do was say "I have put in place the capacity to carry out 100K tests a day and I'd like to say than you to all the different departments and establishments who have helped bring this about" and leave it there. the media coverage of this is so dynamic it would have moved on within hours of that, but instead he has just created another rod for his own back. Politicians are so dense they make me feel like screaming sometimes.

They can contact trace, smart phones means they can do whatever they want or need.

Optional wont work and they dont have the balls to infringe.
Not being a techie I'll take your word for it. Why bother with the cost of developing an app which most people won't upload?

I'd just do it and worry about the fallout late. If it opened up the shutdown most people would soon forget about it anyway IMO.

Is this what South Korea did?. just relied on existing capability within the phones.

It's another "game changer" that wont change the game.

A government full of liars and murderers.
