Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

An interesting comment from a scientist (I didn't catch his name) on Radio 4 this morning. The basic gist appeared to be that in and of itself banning large public gatherings wasn't about stopping the spread of the coronavirus, as it doesn't really spread that way anyway, but rather to convince the public that it's serious enough that they should be doing the hand hygiene stuff that does contribute to its spread.
Hasn't the hand washing washing awareness actually produced reduced influenza figures in some countries as a side effect?

so what if Europeans travel to UK first and the fly to US? Is this ban based on location or ethnicity? A Spanish can fly from London to NY right? So it is meaningless I reckon.
Pretty sure you declare previous travel in the last 10 weeks or so when entering the states

They will be stopped at the US border, however the Americans, British and Irish that are allowed in would have shared the recycled air on the airplane for 7-10 hours and in the queue going through passport control.

Foolproof. :hayee:

Cobra meeting today, could very well decide to close schools.

We've delayed it better than the rest of Europe but it's here and will spread like it has in Italy and France is my view on it, 80 new cases yesterday in the UK.

It is difficult to gauge the real severity of this due to the wall to wall media coverage, yellow breaking news banners etc. Every report on it is overly dramatic which can have the opposite affect it is supposed to be having.

Interestingly, I have just spoken to a hospital I go to every few months (double lung transplant) to check on their advice which is no different to everywhere else. They said that whilst this needs to be taken seriously and dealt with appropriately there is a lot of scaremongering going around and to not overly panic and check social media every two minutes. I will be taking this as seriously as it needs but that was a little reassuring to hear.

There's a distinct possibility that closing schools is a complete waste of time.
