Exactly why the difference is striking. You’d expect higher rates in smokers.

Creates the hypothesis that nicotine has a protective effect against the virus which is why they are studying nicotine patches and not actually having people smoke.

It’s weird, we knew right at the start of this outbreak that the virus attacked ACE2 receptors then decided to forget it. Nicotine has been know to inhibit these receptors for a good while.

Bay area pretty good, at least for fatalities/hospitalization, LA getting hit harder. Very early lockdown probably helped but hard to know anything for sure as we’ve had pathetic amounts of testing.

It’s weird, we knew right at the start of this outbreak that the virus attacked ACE2 receptors then decided to forget it. Nicotine has been know to inhibit these receptors for a good while.

Also there seems to be conflicting opinions on whether ACE inhibitors used for treating hypertension increase the severity of COVID-19 or actually have a protective effect.

So much we don’t know at this stage.

I think we have. Like, we have had this lock down and social distancing and stuff, which seems to be working. Today its all about testing and tracing via apps and all sorts. To prevent a second wave. So maybe, that was the science and the plan.

Until this all washes through, I thinks its way too soon to say Country A and B got it "right" yet.

I dont get Hancock's strategy- testing sites but if you have symptoms you cant go out to be tested! lol

Should be sending swab tests out to every property one for each person named on electoral/ school roll.

He'll say anything to get away with it...a liberal use of the words 'ambition to' gets that bellend out of a lot of tight spots. Ambition to test 100,000; ambition to test in the community; ambition to het enough PPE.

We've also been back and forth about whether ACE inhibitiors and ARBs are good or bad so probably played into it.

But what about stupid people like me that smoke and also take blood pressure meds containing ACE2.
