Nope, it was the only response available.

If governments had been more prepared - half of that, if not more, is down to a lack of transparency from China and the WHO, too - then there could have been other solutions (part of which might have been lockdowns of set weeks, not indefinite ones with the risk of more).

There should be no justification of thousands losing jobs and livelihoods because at th end of the day it's like borrowing from Peter to pay Paul - everybody still loses. The governments messed up big style and were left with no options.

Also, there's been talk of saying people over 70 or those vulnerable should stay inside until October... 2021.

It's not a world worth living in if that's life.

I bet @peteblue isn't short of a few quid. :D

We will. End of this lockdown period it will slowly start coming back.

That's the key, slowly coming back. So social distancing will be around for a while yet. Shops will need limited customers in store and events won't be happening with crowds for a good while.

The next few months , who knows what will happen in regards to infection rates and numbers. But business's will start opening again , the government can't financially sustain paying everyone for too much longer , certainly not beyond the June date.
A lot of white collar companies (and the public sector) will also have to adjust to the new normal. Increased remote/agile working will have to become the norm.

Firms should be using the lockdown constructively and putting in place the policies and procedures required to keep their employees and customers safe when restrictions are eased.

testing would seem the minimum you can do ? But if they’re travelling the streets , shopping interacting even if we reduce exponential spread it has to be an issue . It seems crazy that people can’t visit people but they can fly in and visit them .
Mate. The CAA, the airlines and the government are all saying the majority of people coming in are being repatriated. And there is absolutely zero reason why anybody else would want to fly into one of the worlds virus hotspots which is locked down anyway.

I really don't understand the point you're making. Unless you think we shouldn't be allowing our own citizens back in the country?

im not saying don’t allow them i’m with you I’d just like testing . That’s it . Potentially I’d consider, whether like oz that encouraged quarantine when at home for 7/14 days should be pushed but at the min there isn’t any testing . I just find it completely at odds with a) most of the world b) our current lockdown .

Why not mate?

Why not mate?
Because we don't have an unlimited pot of money.

The more the government spend out paying people , the more they have to claim it all back via tax. They'd be paying millions out every month for staff on the scheme, sooner they can stop it the better.

As much as public health is the forefront , the Tories very much have a economic improvement in mind with all of this. As soon as they can start opening up they won't hesitate.

It's a necessary scheme but they won't want to higher the tax for too long to pay it back.

I caught a bad Flu a few years ago and lost my sense of smell for the best part of a year, in fact I'd say it was nearly 18 months till it was back to normal.

You lose a lot of your sense of taste as well, I was putting chilli/spices in everything just to stop food tasting bland.
Only had flu once in my life when I was about 9 and nothing tasted right for a long time.

Maybe it's just me, but I get this funny feeling that after this new period of lockdown set by the government we're not going to see much movement from them at the end of it and it wouldn't surprise me if there isn't another few more weeks of lockdown after it mainly because they will want to play it safe, after making a balls up of everything else.

Why dont we have an unlimited pot of money? Who allocates it to us? Where does it come from? the government? The banks? Mars?

Well I agreed we should test people coming in from hotspots. They should then self isolate until the results are known. If they are positive they should self isolate for 7 days or until the symptoms go away. Same procedure we have for everybody else testing positive.

The time for quarantine was 2 months ago.

Basically people returning to the country are no higher risk than the ones already here if they stick to social distancing

They will definitely ease it up after this next lockdown ends as people will not follow it too much longer.
Each week that goes by more and more people are out there, schools will reopen and also shops and businesses while maintaining social distancing .
Leisure activities are going to be hardest hit as they are the hardest to social distance and there won't be any footy with crowds until August (next season) at the very earliest but more likely the new year.

In my opinion like
