Sorry, I changed the wording. I had been blasted as a 'Tory' on another forum because I said I was worried about my job (a few weeks ago) and this person used the same argument you have.

We should have been more prepared - the entirety of the west. And the WHO and China didn't help that either.

Australia and NZ have done well by acting early but nowhere in Europe acted early enough really - bar one or two of the smaller nations which have now had to restart in some form because they don't want their economies to crash completely either.
Germany were very prepared, went into lock down a day earlier, already coming out with shops opening. Uk gambled with this virus ending up like SARS or MERS we lost im afraid, unprepared and being the international hub we are, should have gone into lockdown much earlier than our neighbours.

Ok mate. Knock yourself out on semantics.

I think what they did was brilliant and absolutely necessary, it was a superb achievement by those involved .

however if tell you I can build a garage in 72 hours then just take the doors off my shed and drive the car in there and you challenge me on I think we can agree it’s me playing semantics .

Raab wants praise because people said we couldn’t build a hospital in that time and we built 7 , well let’s be fair we didn’t we ? They should get credit for the work they’ve done but it’s fairly transparent spin and it’s not accurate .

100% agree Legs! Just saying, the Sweden thing is being split down the middle by both sides of the argument when really it's probably just got a lot of cons but also a fair few pros as well - relative of course to pros and cons of the current situation.

They didn't go into lockdown because they backed their health care system to handle it. They'll probably end up with a higher proportion of deaths compared to countries of a similar size (as you say) which is obviously bad, but in terms of jobs and livelihoods they may have to spend less to get that all back up and running which could save more lives in the long run.
A valid point is that we are looking at an incomplete picture at the moment, things will be a lot clearer in 6 months/a year which approaches worked better but unfortunately decisions need to be made in the here and now based on best available data.
