In 2019 the local Gloucestershire rag quoted that the Cheltenham Festival was worth £100m to the local economy.

Not too shabby that.

Brilliant quote, but unfortunately your last sentence will be wishful thinking. You can see a small segment of johnsons tribe on here and their blind devotion to him, you can others who have rallied to his cause based on a single issue that has become so tribal for them no amount of facts or expertise will dissuade them to their beloved brexit and the deaths of thousands won't make them think twice about the man they have chosen to deliver their unicorns.

Johnson and cumming will get away with their negligence, their type always do as politics is a very easy game to play when you have no moral compass and requires only a low level base cunning. If they have no morals how can they ever find difficulty in being compromised from their grubby goals.

Unfortunately true

My confidence in the British government is currently at an all time low.

I though Theresa Mays government was bad but this current lot are a complete and utter shambles!

If true this would perhaps show just how reckless and crass it was to let that festival go ahead.- I'm always a little suspicious of facts on social msdia but said at the time this was a decision that will possibly be regretted by many for a long, long time.

There is population density to take into account when comparing different area in the South West but there aren't that many closely populated areas, the cathedral city of Gloucester is relatively close (,less than 10 miles) and may even be in the same NHS trust area. In fact the area may well be a relatively populated area of the south west comparative to others, although I would guess Plymouth may be more.

Whatever if true it seems a reckless decision may be having easily foretold consequences.

They are indeed separate trusts as the table shows which does make it a pretty stark difference between Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Again unfortunately, most of the noises I hear are about what a great job Boris is doing.

Why is anyone surprised just had 2 years of Brexit watching them argue like scool children.

So the PPE from Turkey doesn't arrive today. These lot cant sort anything out.

That's a bit disingenuous. They can sort out giving their mates the opportunity to earn a few bob.

"The Government has appointed a giant haulage firm with financial ties to the Conservative Party to be in charge of a new supply channel for personal protective equipment (PPE) to the NHS.

Its founding executive chairman is Steven N. Parkin, a top Conservative Party donor who has attended Leaders Group meetings and donated just under £1 million to the party over the last five years or so.

In preceding weeks, the NHS has experienced major PPE supply shortages, even forcing the British Army to step in to assist according to HSJ. The Doctors Association UK has compiled a dossier of evidence indicating that NHS staff have been warned against speaking out about the critical shortages.

Cabinet Office documents confirm that the Government has been aware for more than a decade that a pandemic would create a “pinch point” in PPE availability. But little was done to prepare for this eventuality by adapting supply chains.

According to independent public health experts, despite anticipating the growth of the COVID-19 epidemic in the UK, the Government did nothing to prepare NHS Supply Chain capabilities for nearly two months".

It's Government wide now. Some serious rubbish has been recruited into the Civil Service in the last six months just to plug gaps. Recruitment campaigns were going under-subscribed and those that were interviewed weren't hitting the scores to qualify, so they had to start pulling from "near misses" - with these incompetents being parachuted into divisions who had no say on who was coming in. Needless to say, these same drain on resources are now taking the piss during remote working.

How many of them due to Covid19, I wonder...and I'd also wonder if the proportion of that type was being fully reported - it'd be politically explosive if the races and the nearby health trust's disproportionately higher death rate were firmly linked.

I mentioned in another thread I personally know someone who has died and two people who’ve required hospital treatment I’d suggest very possibly as a direct result of Cheltenham, well you can certainly draw a connection to the races and their attendance. of course we’ve no real idea if that’s where they contracted it but it’s certainly worth speculating on .

History will show Boris Johnson was much more interested in getting his flagship, in fact his only policy Brexit done, than he was with saving his people's lives.
Now it's just hilarious to see just about every Tory being thrown in front of a camera, denying it or defending it, pathetic. Wonder if Pete has finished his statue of Boris yet ?
