Lets just say - the university of Sydney won't be going short for a while....
Part of this global problem is how many top scientists / scientific institutions are in the WHO / CCP pockets and are clearly trying to whitewash this whole catastrophe.
If you have to discredit someone because you cannot counter their argument you've already lost

This is just bonkers.

So they were wrong. So now everything a globally funded body of scientists say is wrong?

No not at all, but given how wrong they've been on this and their track record of declaring "no evidence" of something in regards to it, then I'm more likely to take a racism class from Luis Suarez than take that bunch seriously again on COVID-19.

It doesn't mean I'm dismissing all experts, as that would be stupid. I'd simply be looking to listen to epidemiologists not associated with that trainwreck of an organisation that have a clear bias influencing all they do.

Hundreds. Every hotel, the hospitality, every pub, cafe, shop. The town is packed for a week with hundreds of thousands of race goers.

The vast majority dont go for one day. Its the week.
There's no rhyme or reason to it then.

Local stable owners near me went to Cheltenham and brought it back. That’s according to my neighbour anyways. Obviously Chinese whispers is rife at the minute like.
No pun intended

So do you think the WHO and the CCP are currently operating with 100% transparency then ?
I think the WHO is vast organisation that covers a great number of areas of vital importance that extend a long way beyond just dealing with China, and that while reforms and personnel changes may be needed you haven't the first clue about them.

The CCP are a propaganda heavy organisation so I doubt it but I really don't know all that much about their situation, I do know Trump felt they were acting with complete transparency just two months ago

I should have been at The Crucible in Sheffield watching the snooker today on a right boss weekend jolly up.
I'm sure I will appreciate it more if the chance arises again soon.
I suppose snooker will be fine, if it comes to it they could just film it like they do with the darts and have them both compete on separate tables.

The only thing with the whole 'it came from a bat' theory - which I do believe is correct - is that the bat species they are suggesting this came from does not actually colonise within 100 miles of Wuhan. At all. Ever.

And - apparently - there has been no record of this type of bat being sold in the wet markets (but how that can be judged I don't know).

However, one of the Wuhan labs was doing research into coronaviruses and - this is according to a study by a Chinese or Hong Kong-based University, I forget the exact one - these bats were recorded to have been part of the research there.

It's probably as likely that it was an accident - i.e. someone in the lab became infected, then infected the city - as it is that it originated in the wet markets. Maybe it's even a bit of both. We'll never know for sure.

I don't believe it's a bio-weapon. But there's probably too much coincidence for it just to be from the wet markets.
If I understand Prof Homes statement correctly he explicitly rules that out because of the evolutionary change.

"The closest known relative of SARS-CoV-2 is a bat virus named RaTG13, which was kept at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. There is some unfounded speculation that this virus was the origin of SARS-CoV-2. However:

(i) RaTG13 was sampled from a different province of China (Yunnan) to where COVID-19 first appeared; and

(ii) the level of genome sequence divergence between SARS-CoV-2 and RaTG13 is equivalent to an average of 50 years (and at least 20 years) of evolutionary change.

"Hence, SARS-CoV-2 was not derived from RaTG13.”

Obviously I’m open to the idea it escaped from a lab rather than a wet market if there is data to back it up but that doesn’t seem to be what the scientists with expertise in the field are saying. Perhaps things will change as the more investigation that the prof suggests is done “However, a greater sampling of animal species in nature, including bats from Hubei province, is needed to resolve the exact origins of SARS-CoV-2."
