My friends gf works at a nurse, 21k, finished from a night shift and gets a call back 5 hours later asking if she can come back in.
Horrific mate.

Thing is, we are now weirdly used to seeing the numbers.
One of the papers put some pictures of the dead in today, just to personalise it I guess.

One person's death is a tragedy, 10,000 deaths is a statistic.

I think that's where we are at now.

You get tested and self isolate not to infect anyone else surely mate?

Yes, and so do the hundreds of people who also work there.

If it actually told you who it was who had symptoms - the girl that sits across from you, the nerds in the basement, the car park attendant who is always asleep in his cubicle or someone you've never heard of then you (and the NHS) could make a sensible assessment of who it will affect.

It’s weird as where I live my wife volunteered to work tomorrow (doesn’t work bank holidays) and they told her it’s ok as they are fully staffed so no need.

If this doesn't teach the public and politicians that the NHS staff are a crucial investment and not a millstone nothing ever will. All of them heroes beyond my ability to quantify it properly, lets hope they get the support many will undoubtedly need after this is finally over

Would you be able to provide two or three examples please?

I think China will rightly be ostracised and their inability to tell the truth will remain in the memories of the west. The Western nations who have been living off the back of cheap Chinese imports will start to reclaim strategic manufacturing. Chinese investment in key areas, Nuclear, Science based companies, will be reviewed in much greater detail. They will not be allowed into Western 5G networks. Governments will re-look at Health provision, ICU capacities, and the strategic re-use of pop up hospitals. Border control and airport management will be put higher up in the emergency response action plan and will be tightened up anyway.Economic disaster planning requires joined up National and International collaboration. The EU doesn’t work when quick decisions are required and the ‘more Europe’ approach may be rethought. The conservatives will have learnt many lessons of the things they did right, financial support for businesses and workers, and things they did wrong PHE planning.....

It’s set an infectious proximity I believe, so if you are infectious range you will be notified and tested. Not sure why you would need to know who it is. So if your phone is within two metres of mine for over 15 mins and I get the virus you get an alert.

One of my team colleagues tested positive in work, we had to contract trace all patients and staff who had been in contact with them, dates, locatitions and duration, we did it manually, sifting through records, recollection and contacting staff who they had been in contact with over a 10 day period for more then 15 mins. 7 other staff members had to self isolate for a week and get tested. That’s in healthcare, were we need bodies at the moment. An App would have been gift. As well as immediately being able to shut down the chain of infection.

Different day and it’s the military we will be talking about....

And just as important, in its own way, folk will be a lot more appreciative of folk who do jobs that most dont have to consider taking. Cos they are dead important middle managers or sommet that pays them more than £10 an hour, but are sat on their collective backsides while absolutely no one notices that they dont actually matter as much as they thought they did.

Yeah, looking at you, (not @peteblue ), Mr and Mrs Smug from Smugville. Hope your house collapses in value.

These are the points that I am seeing raised most of all, on other media. I think it is important to underline that the cheap chinese labour market is somewhat of a variant in the modern global supply chain, as I believe that wages there have increased dramatically over the last couple of decades. I am also interested to see whether globalisation continues at the rate it has so far if the cheap labour moves elsewhere, as pandemics need not only start in China.

Can't see what the point is of a contact tracing app that gives you an anonymous alert, tbh.

Imagine you work in a big civil service office, emergency services call-centre, hospital or factory producing food and you get an alert saying that someone you met on a day you were at work has Coronavirus symptoms; then imagine everyone else at work getting the same alert.

Most of the covidiots tend to be 20-35 and spend most of their time on the phone or taking selfies. It’s a way to connect with them I suppose......

It would have been, but you knew who had tested positive first. If you didn't get that information and only got an anoymised alert, how would you know whether it was the colleague, someone you'd been sat near on a bus or train, someone in a queue to go into Sainsburys etc etc. If it told you exactly when and where the contact was, in what way is it anonymised?
