There's people in Britain dying of heart failure (you know, Eddie Large is obviously an exampl) and being counted in the official figures, though.

The numbers are all over the place whichever which way you look at them.

Yep - People don't realise that people actually die every day - Even 5 year olds

This 'gameification' of death figures is confusing and scaring people in equal measure

Thats why I would be really interested in them comparing a daily death rate to the same date last year. Maybe not every day, cos that could have unintended consequences, but in the fullness of time.

I did it a few days ago for week ending March 22 2019 (that's the latest there was available).

IIRC there was a few hundred more deaths in the same week this year as last (as of March 22).

He contracted COVID-19 in hospital after going in because his heart was failing after a longstanding problem. That was according to the Beeb.

So he was tested when he was in the ICU for a completely different reason, tested positive (though he'd shown no symptoms) and will be counted among the figures.

It's all relative like because you know, there's loads who have shown symptoms who haven't been tested so not saying it's some mad conspiracy. It's just the figures are so iffy because of all the varying factors.

Replied to Roydo before this: "But can you prove said person would have died if they didn't get this virus?"

I know a lot of people die every day without this but even with underlying problems it's hard to know if they would have died with or without the virus. That's why to me they're including cases like that in the figures.

But can you prove said person would have died if they didn't get this virus?

Well of course not. Like, in Mrs Rs last ward, the other patient was a 60 plus year old lady, in for some severe breathing/lung condition. Been smoking 100, ONE HUNDRED, ciggies a day. For years.

It was not her first visit neither. So say she got admitted, again, next week, gets Corona, what has contributed mainly to her passing?

Yep I get that mate, like I said I don't think this is some conspiracy theory.

They have to count them some way, in some form. But each country is doing it differently too, or has been at different stages, so there's hardly any continuity/consistency.

The best way to do it surely would be to categorise deaths WITH covid-19 and FROM covid-19. I suppose how they determine that has to then be another question too.

EDIT: I think Denmark may have been using the above method. Or perhaps Sweden. I'll check!

Utterly impossible to do.

The virus would just be the final nail in her coffin.

Cannot be done.

If you get stabbed then shot which killed you?

Everything about this from the government reeks of pure incompetence.

We're seriously getting incorrect figures because they can't be arsed having enough people in to collate the figures properly. Unreal.

That excuse is 100 male cows as well.

It would take one person at each hospital (or if you want to be really economical, one person at each trust) to send in that hospitals return, and one person centrally to collate the returns and then publish them as interim findings.

No one else would be required - the detailed work that would require many more folk would all come later.

The cause of death as always will depend on the clinical picture that precedes the death.

If someone with an underlying condition gets hit by a car walking down the street, would you say they died because of the condition or because they were hit by a car?

Utterly impossible to do.

I'm clearly no doctor or expert - I wouldn't know, just asking the question.

Countries have been doing it. Germany, for a start, though they did it on the basis of only counting deaths of people with no serious underlying conditions, I believe.

Also think they changed their tact on that in the last 10 days or so.

I suppose that depends on whether their condition had somehow manifested in human form and got behind the wheel.
