Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I've recently made far fewer visits to this thread as I've found it's just turned into a vehicle for the usual political activists to pedal their own agenda yet again and again and again.

Some of them seemingly posting every minute.

Depressing.

Toby Young is to the right what water and eating after midnight is to the Mogwai, he thoughts multiply them and then they feed off him after midnight so they multiply and run wild with riotous excitement.

Isn't the government still going for herd immunity though? They've stopped using the term as it was getting negative press but as far as I can see the plan is lockdown, wait for the peak to flatten, lift some lockdown restrictions so more people get infected, then lockdown again to flatten the peak, so the NHS can deal with each peak, rinse and repeat.

End result still being herd immunity, even if they quit using the term.

Agree with this. They've absolutely failed in any attempt to test people and monitor cases that way, so herd immunity it is.

And what?

What’s your actual point?

I couldn’t give a knack how long left it’s estimated someone who’s died as a result of coronavirus had or not, it’s completely irrelevant.
The point is that while we are seeing a rise in daily deaths the yearly total death total is not going to be much different than normal.

If that is what they are doing, they need to say so honestly and stop these half-truths and fibs that are coming out - which will quite quickly utterly discredit them and worst still the state itself. They also need to increase the capacity of the NHS considerably, so that they aren't rationing ventilators / care / treatment and don't put doctors in the position where they have to decide who to ventilate (this also includes testing the entire NHS to maximise the number of staff it has available). Most importantly, they also have to test people who think they have it - otherwise they'd never know how much of "the herd" has it and we will be stuck in this mess for a year or two. Finally they have to prepare people that repeated lockdowns may be possible, what they need to do and ensure that financial support for people and businesses is arranged (as much as it can) beforehand, not in the haphazard way this one was.

It seems they aren't doing that much of any this.

That’s nothing but assumption and completely ignores all other factors that drive the annual death rate, and has precisely knack all to do with some Herbert like you seemingly trying to espouse the notion that we should moderate the actions taken to mitigate the spread based on a proportion of those who’ll die not having decades ahead of them.

How about lobbying yourself in the nearest skip.

My estate agent is demanding that they conduct a gas safety check in my flat. I refused but they kept on at me and I have given in. I don't really want some stranger traipsing throughout my flat and risking infection.

Interesting that both the mail and the telegraph are criticising govt on front pages tomorrow... Hmmm

It is strange that a stronger message on key questions hasn’t come out. They know that everyone wants to know why our testing capability is many times fewer than Germany or the USA. Even our own manufacturers who are apparently selling to the world want to know why. I get the feeling that PHE have screwed up but that ministers need to keep the CS on side so are deflecting. It’s almost amazing that such a leaky bureaucracy has put nothing into the public domain over this, usually a sign that they screwed up.......but we will soon find out....

You can't put them on. buses either as they risk infecting other N HS staff. The better of 2 evils I thought.

There is. no easy answer to any of this mate
All a bit pointless testing unless it's the antibody one, hopeful it's self explanatory.

Without a vaccine herd immunity it's just cold callous evil sick minded behaviour.

Seems that way though they're going about it in a different way to the one initially outlined.

And in terms of actually 'beating' this thing it might actually be the best way until a vaccine is found.

But we've got to hope the NHS can hack it. It's even more important in this sense that the tests for the antibodies get out to key NHS staff as quickly as possible so they can be tested.

All the official figures can do at this stage is show trends. We all know far more many people have had it than the official figures say and in all likelihood those people will now have built up some form of immunity.
