That polling just shows how important the question is in getting a certain result - the overall finding was that 51% of people approve of what the Government has been doing, even though when you question them further they don’t rate anything of what they’ve been doing well.

You cant kid people. The government have failed. The only reason their popularity rating is not as bad as the polling on their efforts to test, provide PPE or act quickly enough is because the public desperately want to believe they aren't being driven over a cliff by their political leaders.
Because they went for a policy of holding the door open for the virus to come in, the government are not in any position to take the steam out of discontent by rolling out plans for an easing off of the lockdown. So, they'll face even more leakage of support and wont have the levers to pull to stop them plummeting into political crisis.
All this because they "went with the science"...of Spads like Nosferatu. Johnson, HanCOCK, Gove, Patel...all in the dock with them.
