I literally was going to say this but I thought it would get shot down. We're doing relatively OK in the grand scheme of things. Not a ton of civil unrest, just the usual mass murders and shootings. But COVID is definitely on the way down thanks to sane people getting vaccinated.

That would have been the best alternative. It seems Conmebol were looking into that option but it wasn’t going to be as easy as having it right there in Brazil given many players are already in South America and I’m also sure that Bolsonaro is bending over for Conmebol like nobody in the US would.

If anybody had any doubt about the quality of governance in South America, well, this provides instructive insight.

Clubs should be pulling their players from this dangerous farce. I have my doubts about whether Euro 2020 with any fans is a good idea, but going to Brazil to play the Copa is crazy. Are they allowing fans in? If not, I suppose it could be managed - but why would anybody have any confidence in a country run by Bolsonaro?

They haven’t confirmed yet, nor the location for the games but I’m sure in the next few hours Conmebol will be tweeting another update. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brazil decides to have fans. Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Brazilian football's leaders have been thinking only about themselves, the game and money.
