At the risk of over simplifying it.

If he leaves, the positive would be we might get someone who's better and the negative would be we might get someone who's worse.

Exactly, football is a business, and in a business you have to take the odd risk to improve. Yes,. he may have saved us from oblivion. But there's no reason to say a new manager can't bring us success, just in the same way a lot on here say we will be worse off without moyes.

IINNNN ONE!

We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, just like we did when Walter Smith was sacked and we brought in a manager from a lower league club that has gone on to do a very good job.

...either that or we'll end up in the MLS...ffs!

The good - can we get a manager who will play a more attacking football,e.g look to play two strikers.

Were we not one of the most attacking teams in Europe? We tried two strikers against Bolton, only thing that saved us was reverting to 4-5-1 as we got destroyed on the counter.
I'm fairly confident that no matter which manager we get he will do a worse job than Moyes has.

In some quarters the new appointment is going to have to better regular top 6 finishes, win cups & beat the Sky 4 away regularly to be considered good enough.......& all this on a budget less than that of Fulham.

Indeed Sir.....you would imagine there will be a list as long as your arm of 2nd rate managers wanting the job but Bill needs to find someone who can see the job through and without having to pay managers off when it all goes wrong.

I have said this before in another thread. I don, think Bill fancys giving the job to a new manager becuase apart from the fact he has to pay off managers when it goes wrong Moyes has left a blood high watermark for the next manager. It will be Bills, head on the block if he gets the manager appoitment wrong...this he knows.

It is about much than just football. The best thing is that it WILL force Kenwright's hand.

As long as Moyes stays then Kenwright has a get out of jail free card, and we will forever remain amongst the paupers of the league.

Yerp he would be forced to spend all those millions he has stashed away which he won't do at the moment because he doesn't need to.

Dear God.

I know we've gone back and forth over this a lot.

But in all honesty, I'd be surprised if any manager can get us finishing consistently higher in the league than Moyes does. I don't think it's impossible but it's hard in this league do that on our budget given the importance of the top four to the rich clubs.

It's the cups where's theres the biggest room for improvement, though. And I don't think that it's beyond question for us to bring in a manager who could over the next five years keep us solidly around the top 8 and add a cup to that. That would be your positive scenario.

Your negative scenario would be a relegation fight.

Kenwright won't want to lose Moyes for a number of reasons, not least because he's a top drawer manager & he'll have his work cut out finding someone who can deliver the same sort of results on an equivalent budget.

But beyond that, he has a good relationship with Moyes & he knows he can both trust him & rely on him to be consistent. The prospect of Moyes leaving will be giving Kenwright sleepless nights....

Completely agree, although we're gonna win the cup this season so its a moot point ;)
