Computer games.

It's not just them. Sony are making you pay for that bunch of crap demos for PSVR.

Which is stupid, but at least Sony can rely on third party devs making titles all over the shop for VR, and the consumer knows it. Nintendo are selling hardware after recent history suggesting they barely release games for their hardware, so to not put obvious crap like this 1-2-Switch in the box as a launch title is either pure greed or stupidity.

There's no reason for me to get a Switch. Even for Zelda - I'll just get it for the WiiU, which I already have. So if Nintendo aren't even appealing to fans of their flop system, which should be bread and butter, then what chance do they have?

They should pull back the launch date for this a good 3-6 months, get a launch line-up ready with at least a dozen titles, and drop back the RRP of all first party titles to around £40 - otherwise it's going to flop hard, at least in the UK.

Not new though is it?

I remember buying Nights (Into Dreams) for the Sega Saturn bloody ages ago and you had to be a fancy controller for it. Actually one of the first analogue types of memory serves me.

Mind you. The Saturn died about 5 months later.

The only reason I would buy a Switch is if it was cheap.

This is what Nintendo in their bubble have to understand. It is one thing to rely on their core fans, but they are alienating them and that number of core fans is dropping. To survive they will need to catch the likes of me, who already has a Xbox one or PS4 and make them willingly want to go out and spend their money. The only way of doing that is a cheap system and cheap, plentiful good games.

But then again, it is Nintendo. And they do live in the bubble where they only gauge their performance against the Japanese market. Doing well anywhere else is just a bonus to them.

I love Nintendo, but I can't justify getting a Switch after getting a Wii U.... It doesn't even look that much more powerful from the videos I've seen. It's basically a Wii U pro.

Spot on.

That's why I was encouraged at first when I saw the launch trailer - I thought they'd come up with a really unique product that would capture imaginations, that didn't rely on hardware power so they could sell cheap.

They actually have done that - $299 is one of the cheaper console launch prices in history - but they've completely screwed up by having that price as bare bones, to the point where if you just spent that and bought the boxed console it would literally be useless. Even the Atari 2600 in 1977 had Combat included in the box ffs.

You call it a bubble they live in, which is true - but as a businessman, I just think they're mental. Someone who runs a corner shop would be able to tell them quickly why what they're doing here is incredibly daft.

Thing is, the bubble I am referring to us that they don't give a toss about the US or EU market. So long as they are successful in Japan, that is all the validation/success they need. If they happen to be successful in the US/EU as well, then it is a bonus. Which I think is incredibly short sighted, as the US/EU market is huge.

They are a strange company, thats for sure.

Well the HTC Vive arrived, it says in the box only takes 28mins to set up. Well that's if you have decent walls that a 18v drill can get in to. Took me a few hours and a lot of mess and moaning to get the base stations wall mounted, they're still not on great ended up filling with no more nails and then taping over it(walls are bare pre decorating).

Got everything set up and the headset fit great is easily adjustable but the wires are a bit of a pain, especially when stood up. The worry about glasses wasn't necessary @Armel my set worked fine with two sets of glasses of different sizes so it's good to go.

To say it's an experience is putting it mildly it's absolutely great the spacial element is wonderful I was pleased at how good it was, I didn't know what I was expecting.

Onto Project cars, I do like racing games but don't play as often as I should as soon as I was in the cockpit of my Kart I wanted a steering wheel straight away, holding a gamepad just doesn't feel right with what you are watching on screen.

Finally Elite : Dangerous the game I wanted head tracking for and ended up with VR and OMG what a difference it makes, I can see my whole cockpit, I look behind and my seat is there. I have full tracking when dogfighting, so much easier when you know where the other guy is. Just need to set up my voice attack now and Elite is rigged up.

All in all 9/10 dropped a point for the wires being a pain.

Sounds decent Blue. How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking? Do you need a gaming pc or can these be used with consoles?

Sounds like it would be awesome with a knights of the old republic type game with light sabres etc.

Hi mate, It cost £758.00 for the Vive. You do need a gaming PC but console versions are available, you need fairly high end specs to run it as well and some USB 3.0 slots.

It's still in its infancy so games are being released all the time as more devs jump onboard but yeah its a great idea for a Star Wars type game.

you have vr for the PS4, called PSVR. its obviously not as good as the ones for pc, as they have more power, but I heard it's pretty good and not that far away from oculus and vive.
you need a decent gaming computer for oculus and vive, however I have a 6 year old gaming pc ( and it wasnt top specs then either) and I can play VR. I have however upgraded to a mid-range graphic card and more ram a year ago.
