Coin collectors?

I can remember a phase as a kid when I religiously went through all the change I could find around the house looking for pennies marked with either a KN or H marking that a local stamp and coin shop that would give you half a crown for.

I've got a decent collection of coins and notes from around the world. All pre-euro stuff.

I keep meaning to get them cleaned up and put in a little book or something but for now they're just sat in an ancient tin under the bed
From what I've read online, cleaning is sacrilege and you should only handle them wearing white cotton gloves...who knew.

I have a small carrier bag with a fair number of British pre-decimal coins and notes. I checked online about 10 years ago and a few are worth more than original value. Has always been my intention to find somewhere to send the rest. In addition have a couple of decimal 50p pieces that are supposed to be worth more than face value, but they are "used" and therefore not pristine. Add to that an old tin of foreign coins which I have no clue about. Obviously I am not a numismatist but do find them interesting especially trying to find more info on the internet.

….i started buying gold sovereigns for Grandkids when the first arrived 7 years ago. They were circa £200 each at that stage, so I’d get them for birthdays, Easter, Christmas, Christenings etc. Amazing how the price has hiked, they’re now getting on for £1k each.

I now have 5 grandkids, so I’ve stopped buying when they reached 5yo as the amount is crazy. I think my youngest two had about 15 each by the time they reached 5yo, hopefully a nice nest egg for when they reach 18.
