How can you hold the position of dismissing youth and their efforts and yet say it is all about experience?

You have pulled @Bruce Wayne on suggestions of age competency but yet feel free to dismiss the concerns of our future voters.

I’ve raised four kids, I’m helping to raise a granddaughter. I am not dismissing their efforts, I am disappointed that they are so one dimensional and not getting to the real issue. Unfortunately whether we like it or not a 16 year old knows an awful lot more than a 6 year old, so imagine what more than a 16 year old a 26 year old knows, never mind a 36, 46, 56, 66 knows.......

I take it they will all be holidaying in Wales then, using a push bike instead of getting a car and not having the latest smart phone as they contain plastic?
Plastic is not the half of it, but they did not create them and brainwash themselves with brilliant advertising.....adults did. You see we have a problem, we are brilliant at producing food and all the basics for living a tolerable life. That leaves the rest of us doing things that would not be missed if we did not do them, but then we would not be employed. Some big thinking and new societal and economic models needed unless we happily hurtle to the end. Fortunately as I am sixty this year, I will be gone before it really bites wealthier society, but bite it will.

In our world you gain knowledge as you are conditioned to the consumerist status quo. I am as bad as anyone, but I know it has happened.

Well I haven’t written them off nor stereotyped them. Our kids are what they are Kids. They have good thoughts and aspirations, but haven’t yet experienced what really goes on in the world. They can protest about the U.K. not doing enough, but were they protesting outside of the Chinese Embassy, the biggest polluter on the planet. I just want them to grow up, learn, then protest....

To be honest, I found you dismissive in your comments of what it takes to be a Supreme Court Judge. You brushed it aside as a comparison to your own experience which was largely unrelated.

My premise is that if kids now are environmentally aware then whatever their career path, be it Judge or Barber, they will have an awareness of what the planet needs now and that will supercede experience.

We are mere custodians Pete.

Fine.....

Ergo, unless you've lived the same life experience as me, you aren't qualified to comment. What an incredibly patronising viewpoint.

'The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently'

You're assuming that age grants greater knowledge - which I suspect is a concept that appeals greatly to you as an older man but a wine only gets better with age, if the grapes were good in the first instance.

They raise awareness
They gain political support because politicians like to be associated with anything popular
They have a nice day in the sunshine...
I said they did a good job of raising the point. But, I would like to see them take the next step and actually do something. It’s one thing to take a Friday off when the weather is nice. It’s quite another to roll up your sleeves and put some work in or be creative with the type of protests......
you seem fixated on the day off in the nice weather. It happened in 170 countries Pete, not just England. It all started with a 15 year old Swede sitting in the snow last year.
A, now 16 year old, autistic girl has inspired millions of kids around the world to protest inaction and you’re complaining because they didn’t go to tescoes. Google picked today to announce this
https://www.theguardian.com/technol...ls-will-lead-to-2bn-wind-and-solar-investment

I understand that. But claiming that the planet will die in a dozen years or that we have stolen their old age is just juvenile posturing. I have great sympathy for what they want, but overstating the issues and doing sod all practical to address them carries no weight with me.....
They claim that in a dozen years the damage will be irreversible if we don’t act. They’re backed up by science.

Don't know why any off you bother with him its the same dismissive crap every time with him

It goes like this.

Pete's opinion...
constructive replies
Pete's dismissive retorts
More constructive replies
Sarcasm and more dismissive retorts
People getting annoyed
Pete then makes comments about his own life and draws parallels or comparisons

He will always be the opposite of the popular opinion and has no shame defending it. He will always defend his own "factual" knowledge even when he know's he is wrong.

I'll expect him to make a smart comment in reply to this about how stupid i am or how i offer nothing blah blah blah.

Genuinely, this has nothing to do with whether you are raising children, have raised children, want to raise children.
How do these 10 year gaps of knowledge manifest themselves?

You sound like my nephew who thought I was the oldest person in the world on the basis that if you grew a little each year then, obviously, his 6’5” uncle must be incredibly old.

Age, knowledge and wisdom are not directly correlatable, as you prove on a daily basis.
