You really must do something about your anger. I’ve already raised 4 brilliant children thank you. You are seemingly trying to portray folk in here as ‘hating children’ or ‘frightened that they may be smarter’, when the exact opposite is the truth. I want kids to enjoy being kids, there’s more than enough time in life to get wound up about this issue or that issue. Meanwhile, back to my question, what happens next......

Seems your more keen to tell children what to do. They get to choose how to spend their time.
It’s very, very childish and unhelpful to dothe whole ‘stop being so angry’ - you are doing this to shut down his argument and the validity of his response.

Since some of you seem a bit confused:

That is the whole point Pete. Had these "kids" not been pretesting, there would be no "what happens next" we would just carry on oblivious and ambivalent to it all.

They have helped/driven awareness on a scale that is now impossible to ignore, there is literally nothing bad to be said about it unless you just want to be contrary for the hell of it.

Please tell me what is actually wrong with it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with raising awareness. I would have liked them to do something a bit more practical than just getting in some practice for the marches they will be doing in the years to come.....

What would you do Pete? What would be your next steps as one of the UK's top tier people. How would you engage people and encourage/engineer change?

Thank you for these. China remains the largest producer of carbon emissions causing 1 million premature deaths. It states that China spends more on renewables than anyone else at $91Bn, while the USA only spends $49Bn and Europe $61Bn, but as the populations of the USA and the EU combined are less than China what does this fact actually mean ?...

So they did the job they set out to do (so well we, and many millions of people are having this same discussion), now it is over to the powers that be to actually do something. The protesters are not in a position to make actual changes, otherwise they would do so.

That they are actively trying to make a change, so it is pointless protesting to the Chinese, they are well aware of the issue, the yanks however are not.

But I thought you just wanted them to be kids and not do anything? Now you’re saying you actually want them to do more?

They’ve done the big picture, but trying to boil the ocean doesn’t work. Little steps, relentless little steps. Pick on one or two key issues, the overuse of plastics at supermarkets for instance and protest outside of every Tesco shop in the land, and keep doing it. Then they would get real attention and will take a small step forward when the supermarkets drive the change back into their suppliers. Walking around London etc looks good on the Tv for ten seconds, but nothing really changes.....

Wow. Why are you so upset. Anyway now that you have proven your point that children are smarter than you are, perhaps you might now address the question of what happens next. Marches are one thing, but what happens next ?.....

What should happen next, is governments should start to feel pressure from the activism, and look to make real changes and commitments to attempt to address the problem.

However as long as governments are filled with climate deniers, and can play to the parts of the public who are too busy denying the science and instead criticising Greta and others with lame whataboutery, it will certainly be an uphill struggle.

It means that China is actually trying, and we are not.

So please stop invoking China as an excuse not to do anything.
