they don't have the sense of racial superiority that the Ukrainians have. their differences are political rather than attempts at fostering ethnic division.

I’ll ignore the ‘racial superiority’ claim which is nonsense. However my experience of Taiwanese people is that years ago they were sort of split between those who would say they were Taiwanese or Chinese. Today however the picture has changed whereby the vast majority regard themselves as Taiwanese, happy to trade with the PRC but not be a part of it…..

I understand what you are saying however - and you have alluded to it - trade trumps all for 'Chinese'. That's why I think conflict is unlikely. They simply aren't people who will seek conflict if a profit can be made. Which it clearly is, for both sides, at present.

They are coin counters.

I think there's a Chinese phrase 'from harmony, comes prosperity' that comes to mind. I don't think they'd ruin that harmony if prosperity was then put at risk.

Mate, he is just making stuff up now.

yes, the Chinese are too clever for that.

Or maybe I should say they are too busy counting their coins?

Additionally the Taiwanese actually see themselves as Chinese, no question.

Unlike the Ukrainians who feel themselves to be racially superior (third reich style) to Russians.

Offensive and mind numbingly dumb on a number of levels.

The Russia/Ukraine and China/Taiwan situations are so different that it would be foolish to try and draw any kind parallels between them.

The overwhelming majority of Taiwanese definitely do not see themselves as Chinese, and the overwhelming majority of the few that do, see Taipei as the capital of "One China"

Unfortunately I don't see a good ending for Taiwan, Xi has already said he will take it by force and has basically said he will do it within the next 10 years. The geography of the island, while making it difficult for China to invade, makes it even more difficult for other countries to help defend it.

It is going to take a huge and immediate shift in international politics to prevent China invading. We are seeing the grass roots of that push back in the South China Sea, but unfortunately I think it is too little too late

I'd agree with this assessment... I've heard it said that Tiawan is far more useful to the CCP the way it is.. threatening war and telling the Chinese people how easy it would be for China to take the island by force is a sort of CCP propaganda.. it would hit the Chinese economy far too hard for an attack to actually happen perhaps a blockade is what they'll do but I very much doubt they'll attack..
