Additionally the Taiwanese actually see themselves as Chinese, no question.
Unlike the Ukrainians who feel themselves to be racially superior (third reich style) to Russians.
The Russia/Ukraine and China/Taiwan situations are so different that it would be foolish to try and draw any kind parallels between them.
The overwhelming majority of Taiwanese definitely do not see themselves as Chinese, and the overwhelming majority of the few that do, see Taipei as the capital of "One China"
Unfortunately I don't see a good ending for Taiwan, Xi has already said he will take it by force and has basically said he will do it within the next 10 years. The geography of the island, while making it difficult for China to invade, makes it even more difficult for other countries to help defend it.
It is going to take a huge and immediate shift in international politics to prevent China invading. We are seeing the grass roots of that push back in the South China Sea, but unfortunately I think it is too little too late
