Catching Chelsea's eye according to The Guardian.

If this Luiz is worth £43m Jags is worth at least half, with this new home grown law - born and bred players will be a fantastic asset.

I wouldn't be happy, i'll admit.

Unless it gave us the money to sign Cahill and Shawcross and anyone else we might fancy.

Even a Lescott-esque sum wouldn't turn my head, personally. Jags' effect on the rest of the defence can honestly never be understated. Sadly you only really notice it when he's absent.

Indeed.

Never understood the stick he gets from Evertonians for the alleged "hoofball" he plays, considering he's a centre-half it's to be expected. He's not paid to have the vision to see intricate runs for a slide rule pass!

His hoofing was a problem mate, but it's certainly got a lot better. He seems more inclinded to pass it to Distin now, who will feed in Baines or even do something himself. But speaking defensively, as he is a CB, he's the best defensive player I've ever seen at the club. I love him to bits.

He's paid to stop us conceding goals.

Part of that means winning the ball and distributing that to a teammate to help start and attack. If he is lumping the ball forward and losing possession he isn't doing his job.

Considering their are plenty of other centre halfs who can do that and have better records than us i'd say he isn't doing his job the best he possibly can.

Not a dig at him, he still does a very good job. But there's more to defending than what Jags can do in the game today.

Before he was injured, he was brilliant. Easily one of the top CB's, just about anywhere. Since he's come back, he's been a bit average. Still good by anyones standards, just not up to the heady heights he hit before.
