Dave I am not sure to be disappointed in you for starting this thread with the slant you put on it, or if I should have just expected it of you.

Wasn't Jernny Seagrove married to one...............she has had a bit of Venezulan in her

How's about this....Haiti isn't the safest place in the world, and people are looting even though there has just been this tragic earthquake.....I would absolutely send the soldiers in to provide security to the aid workers and safeguard the supplies being brought in.

No occupation will happen, I just can't see the point of the OP with the remarks about something strange going on.

If the troops weren't there and aid workers were killed and/or supplies stolen, then the US would come under fire for NOT safeguarding the support effort. Honestly, we can't win.

best stay out of it then eh mate?

Ok, lets all laugh at Chavez, because he is sad and deluded (hmm, I am seeing comparisons to someone else who thinks he is in for life........looks like him too :P ) and gone completely off the end with this earthquake weapon bit.

Chavez has isolated Venuzuela just like Castro did to Cuba.

Can anyone take that cat serious. He has run off or taken over any multinational venture inside his borders and now expects outsiders to trust him again to extract his oil find. Yeh right.

Venezuela is one of my least favorite countries in the world, had some bad experiences concerning it a few years back, but it's water under the bridge and I don't want to look back.

Chavez, come to think of it, could well be a South American Benitez counterpart, an outspoken but ridiculed Spanish speaking belligerent warty toad, looking for incitement and is rarely disappointed.

So he and his nation had some lime with the States a while back, called George Bush junior some derogatory names, attacked the King of Spain for some reason, amid other things, not much time for this person or his nation, a safe enough distance between London and Caracas for me. :@

Massive surge in Afghanistan? Upping the ante in Pakistan?

Not done wiping out that human pestilence known as the Taliban.

Not following your reasoning about Pakistan.

As for Chavez, who gives a flying rip what he says? Just another in the long line of tinpot dictators who were "elected."

And of course, we're sending troops over to Haiti so that we can estabilsh secret bases from which we can launch our next offensive into Caracas. We'll have Venezuela in American hands in a week.

Expansion of drone programme.

These are the elections ratified as non-fraudulent by international observers? Ok.

Maybe they should have gotten the observers in for the US 2000 Presidential Election count?

Yes, that would be a wholly 'fantastic' chain of events....Grenada, Cuba, Guatemala, Panama........
