2025/26 Charly Alcaraz

On that we can agree. Personally id rather find a better partner for Garner long term than Gueye. We never control games.
That's more down to the defenders/Pickford. We needlessly boot the ball long at every opportunity and very rarely build up from the back. If we had defenders who are more comfortable on the ball we would control possession better.

Alcaraz is a myth. Where is this amazing player some people seem to see yet who has none of the stats to back it up?
He's not amazing. He just does the part of the game we need someone to do.

And the amusing part is a lot of people who don't want him to play more agree with this. Because they'll go "well he shouldn't start but he's good off the bench when we need a goal." So they're admitting when we need to score he's someone who should be out there. But football has this weird ingrained philosophical viewpoint where for the first 60 or so minutes of a 0-0 match it isn't actually a "need" to score goals. That's a "luxury." It's only when you're going to lose or draw, and not even every draw but only draws when you think you should win, that scoring goals is needed.

He just doesn’t seem capable of doing it though. He’s lacking.

In Moyes' philosophy: Why change if we're not losing yet?

Look if we sold him this summer and bought someone else to do it or sacked Moyes and changed our system up where chance creation was done a different way or found some other way to be better in attack I'd be completely fine with it. Right now he's one of the two best healthy option in the team to open teams up and create chances in the final third that we have.

Do you think KDH as a 10 shows a greater attacking threat than Alcaraz?

Because KDH is so far superior as an 8, alongside Garner, than he is further forward, its almost comical to see him used there. He had 2 shots last game, 1 on a plate for him from Barry. What else did he do, nothing.

Last seasons quick attacking play has morphed into this seasons slow play epitomised by Grealish and Dibling holding the ball up.

Put Alcaraz in a team who want to be quick on the transition and he's great. Put him in a boring slow team (this one) and hes poor.

Hopefully with George playing rather than McNeil or Grealish we actually look like a side who plays an Alcaraz/Dibling at 10 rather than a KDH there to fit Gana in.

I think his qualities as a ten are pretty obvious. Can run with it, shoot and tries some high risk passes.

I think he struggles with the amount of running he needs to do and this contributes to some sloppy play sometimes. The league is brutal for midfielders in terms of the athleticism you need.

Hes still developing and if he adapts to the league and matures, I can see him becoming a really good player.
