2025/26 Charly Alcaraz

Is he one of those players who is best when playing for a contract?
Bang average at best this season.
Still only really seems effective as an impact sub.

Very frustrating today, picks up the ball in good areas and gets us up the pitch but his decision making was awful today.

I think thats true. But when he travels up the pitch well with the ball his options are pretty limited when he gets to the edge of the box. We're Everton. He has either barry or beto. And certainly no overlapping fullbacks. His other option would be go for goal. If he's travelling 50 or 60 yards with the ball getting your team right onto the opposition penalty box and then putting it in the net he's not a 12m signing for Everton. He's at inter milan or bayern munich.
There's still to much expectation of what Alcaraz is imo. For one or two bad calls he's also one of the most likely players to make something happen. And its not like we carry him for that bit of quality that might come. He puts in a shift as much as anyone.
Its like if he instantly doesnt do anything its told you. Get him off.

They were both poor today but, for me, the difference was that Alcaraz had a header on goal and the overhead kick, I couldn't tell you one thing McNeil did. Not one. Granted Alcaraz gave the ball away more than McNeil too. Neither exactly grabbed their chances in the first team.

What are these "first team chances" you and a few others speak of?

Alcaraz gets motm = dropped or used wide

Alcaraz scores/assists = dropped or used wide

Check out his stats for goals and assists last season:

763mins 2 goals & 3 assists.

Incredibly impressive and yet not rewarded with regular games at 10. Same thing this season.

Just need to look at KDH being superior as an 8 and Moyes puts him back at 10.

Gana slapping Keane and straight back in the team.

There are no first team chances. Watch Iroegbunam get dropped for Gana soon.

Yes Zat, its called a purple patch, Beto scored last season also and he is also rubbish like Alcaraz. Why are you judging a player off such a small pool of data anyway? its crazy tbh and imo its such a small pool your argument falls apart almost straight away. 8 games mate, cmon you can do better than this Zatara.

If Moyes is using a 10 then which player should be used there to the benefit of the team?
We don't play with a conventional 10 though, that's why we don't need Alcaraz aside from the fact he isn't very good. He won't ever be anymore than a squad player anywhere imo, here or any other club, the wet wipes need to just accept it.

Been saying it for ages, he’s just as likely to pop up playing for Ludogorets in three years time than for a top side.

Much more likely, arguably.

He’s got some obvious qualities but some absolutely glaring weaknesses, which is why he’s moved around so much so young.

So you dont actually have an alternative.

Clearly as some posters have also noticed is that the style of play has changed. This is more like the posession focused play at the clubs he was at where he flopped...not those playing quick and direct as we were last season.

Just the same for Beto. Hence the lack of goals i imagine.

1
See CF + 10 do well with quick direct play.

2
Change play to negative posession focused football.

3
See CF + 10 do badly

Posters cant understand why we arent scoring.

Moyes is trying to actually gain control in games, it’s not hard to see why.

I’d much rather play to the strengths of Ndiaye, KDH, Grealish, Garner etc. than Alcaraz and Beto…

It’s not sustainable for a team like ours with such little pace/recovery power to keep stretching the game.

Understandably Moyes wants us to transition away from that.

Cheap signing, young, will be on relatively low wages, no huge contract. He's a good option to have at the club but nowhere near good enough to be starting for any team with top half aspirations. Unfortunately he's having to start now, and even worse he's surrounded by players inferior to him as well, both sideways (at least to the left) and in front of him — he's hardly going to stand out.

He has had some good games and bad games. He has come on the pitch and had some very positive influences on games Palace been a good example. More often than not his starts have been when we are under strength. I think if he is playing alongside KDH Grealish and Ndiaye you see a better return. To be fair I was baffled how he got subbed instead of McNeil yesterday and that not the first time this has happened this season.
