Hes average going forward with the ball , poor going forward without the ball , really poor defending without the ball .
The less he plays, the more people insist he should be getting minutes. Then he gets minutes, and shows us what he really brings to the team instead. That short contract doesn't seem like such a bad decision after all.

To be fair it says average not poor, and I’d say that’s about right. To balance out your example there was one just before half time where he had the opportunity to really drive at them on the break but was easily dispossessed when there was a great chance for a counter. Hes direct and very good at eating up ground when there’s space in front of him but he isn’t the best at protecting the ball and isn’t always the best when things are a bit tighter so yeah overall I’d say he’s pretty average in carrying the ball forward.

But as ive posted in another response. If dibling puts away that chance that goal is all Alcaraz. We havent many players who can turn defence to attack carrying the ball almost the length of the pitch. Thats what he can do. Id rather sometimes concentrate on what someone can do rather than what he cant. We've had many players down the years who fit in the cant do.
For all the stick he's getting. In a dour game he did actualy look the player most likely to score.
He struggled in a struggling team - yet at least he sweat his guts out for his team - yes he misplaced passes - but he was one who shot on sight - the others like passing backwards Tim gave us a good physical presence & that was it IMO ....
I don’t disagree, I’m not saying he’s awful just saying I don’t think it’s harsh to say he’s average etc. He does some very good stuff and he does some stuff which is truly appalling for this level of football - overall it works out as him being pretty average.

A good definition: while he tries to do and offer something, even though he sometimes makes mistakes, others don't or can't. And the mistakes are more frequent when he overthinks or has game orders, not when he's playing naturally, the way he knows how.

He's a bit of a rough diamond. Im just a bit surprised he seems to be taking more stick than anyone else for a 0-0 at Burnley. It was poor all round. Not sure why he's getting it more when he actualy looked likely to score than anyone else.
