Champions League Restructure

Very sad for the losers and the winners won't give them a second thought. Honestly, if we end up on the right side of it (unlikely, I know) we won't be as outraged.

The spin about European pedigree might end with some turkeys voting for Christmas too - if any current regulars or past winners from Eastern Europe got relegated, it would be very hard to see them ever getting back.

I tend to agree with @killenefc . Even should this come to pass...

i) the financial situation is not that much different from what it is at the moment. Certainly more certiitude of budget and income for the Sky 4 (because two English teams from the 'Top 6 or however many we have to go down to until United or Liverpool are included' are going to fall by the wayside as I believe the article mentions).
ii) if I were a fan of those teams, I would be dead bored with playing Ajax, PSG, Bayern Munich every single sodding season in a competition hyped to the Americas and Asia but with no real rivalries.
iii) I'll still be perfectly happy with Everton playing in the Premier League against 'normal' clubs and those 'top' teams having to rest their overpaid players to keep their Champions League quotient figure high enough so that they can swan into the same boring competition each year.

If this happens I hope the football authorities in this country take a firm stand,no re-arranging of fixtures to accomodate it,if they form a breakaway league then banned from all domestic cups,no call ups for caps and if it fails and they want back in start at the bottom of the pyramid, the only appeal it is going to have is to overseas tv viewers

They’ll kill the goose that lays the golden egg. The big clubs hate competition yet it’s competition that drives the viewing figures. No one is watching the processions in Serie A, Ligue Un, or The Bundesliga, that’s why the prem is currently the biggest draw because it has at least a shred of competition. They’ll eventually eradicate it out though and then wonder why no one is watching anymore apart from a load of die hard cult members from Liverpool and United.

It's a happy clapper league at best. They'd be better off just forming their own plastic versions of Liverpool, Chelsea, Utd etc and then they could have them play were they want.

That will be on the cards, its a competition aimed at the viewer rather than the supporter,it will end up with games getting played across Asia and the Usa,kick off times to suit the tv market

It just won't wash over here. It's quite ironic that LFC fans tear into City because they don't fill their ground etc, but it's the happy clappers who bulk up their fan base who could ultimately tear them apart if this bollocks goes through.

To be fair, rich owners and oligarchs have always been hanging around (Mersey Millionaires) but the anticipated endgame of this is to turn it into franchise soccerball where the teams can be moved to wherever the owners fancy as long as the municipal and national authorities kick in enough tax relief and build new stadia for the now Shanghai Red Devils and San Francisco Gunners (see NFL and Formula 1).

Thing is the people running the game and the clubs dont give a shiny one about the fans, look at the effort the rs put into stopping touting and how they package games for overseas visitors, the TV revenue will cover any loss in home fans, even now the Prem could play in empty stadiums and still make profit, imagine the rs V barca in Singapore its a sell out
