Champions League Restructure

Irrespective of Everton's involvement or absence thereof it's a second rate overhyped competition to me. I'm more interested in the progress of traditional fixtures with a history going back over a century than any new competition with no stature other than a blatant plan to collect money from the public.

It doesn't contribute to sport, its parasitism by the media moguls and the greedy who run the football associations.

It's not to benefit anyone but the people in position to make tons of money from the TV deals which is a shame. The "Big 6" should be opposed as they already make too much money and someone is getting left out, at least to start, but greed takes over again. Tits.

The format of the Champions League is set to change in 2024 with plans now reportedly at an advanced stage.

The new format will consist of four leagues with eight teams in each league. The bottom two clubs each year will be "relegated" and replaced by the semi-finalists from the Europa League and four sides who have registered high-placed finished in their domestic league.

This could have serious implications for Everton and English football as a whole.

What a surprise.

This is exactly why they put the group stages in the European Cup and rebranded it as the Champions League. More big teams playing each other more often with second chances if they stuff it up.

Apologies, I stand corrected. And they went on to beat that ‘last great’ Madrid side you speak of, to the title that same season. Well past their peak.

Instinctiively it didn't sound great but the thing is the CL is already dull as [Poor language removed] as most leagues are predictable borefests, I reckon something does need to change.

Think the format needs more tweaking, the farce that would be the PL winner being denied access can't be allowed to happen for instance. I think if it wasn't as much of a closed shop as they're currently proposing it would be acceptable.

I'd love to see Benfica, Celtic, Red Star Belgrade etc having a chance of winning the thing.

It sums it up that the final this year was contested between two sides who have not won their league championship for a combined 88 years.

So you can be Champions of a major european league, and still not qualify for the CHAMPIONS League?

Football is ruined.
