Do I think its a disgrace? Yes. I just dont like the faux outrage as he's one of our players - as opposed to a random Turkish bloke. People are more outraged by him than they are at what Erdogan is doing.

If he didnt play for us, most wouldnt care, which to me is the more pressing issue
Well speaking for myself, and I'm sure many other Evertonians who are furious at Tosun's actions would agree, I have been a constant critic of the awful things Erdogan gets up to. Believe you me, I am NOT more outraged by what Tosun has done than I am by the actions of that despot.

The point is though, that it feels as if the world is unravelling very quickly at the moment. Football and Everton - God help me - is my release from these things. Hopefully never the twain shall meet. However, they have done here and in a big way. I wouldn't come on this forum to debate politics if I can avoid it because, like many of us who are politically minded at the moment (no matter what your perspectives may be), I find that most things seem to descend into a political argument of some sort at the moment.

Now I know, you may sit there and go, well that is exactly what you are doing now. But I come on here mainly to express my opinions on Everton related matters. Now one of our players has done something that I personally believe to be truly outrageous. The same goes for the rest of the Turkish team that engaged in that pathetic display, but Tosun is our player and is a representative of a club that I love and identify with. There is a difference between expressing a political opinion and promoting war, which is what Tosun has done while employed by our club.

It is important to stand for what is morally right. If one of our former players started writing columns for the Scum we would be outraged by it - and rightly so. But people could turn around and say, it's the player's right to earn money, the club have boycotted it, so what he does is an irrelevance etc. but we would all be disgusted by it as it demonstrates an alarming lack of empathy for a sensitive issue. This would motivate us as a fanbase to cry out shame - again rightfully so - because it is close to home for us. But, just like support of a Turkish invasion of another country it is morally wrong, regardless of proximity to our fanbase. Plus, in the above hypothetical, said former player would not be on the current payroll of the club.

The whole reason this is on here, is precisely because he DOES play for us. I for one am just as critical of the other players involved, but they don't play for Everton, so I don't think theirs is a direct issue to write about on an Everton fans' forum.

Realistically in light of all the shocking revelations to come out about operation banner including the continued support of soldier F who shot a disabled man in the back any everton player wearing a poppy should also be sacked, right?

I am in complete support of this

I love that the response from some to those of us that are appalled by this is 'get a life'.

So to get a life in this instance is to ignore a deepening humanitarian crisis and the actions of a despot, being supported by a player who sports our club badge and just get behind the lad and chill and enjoy some footy.

Absolute nonsense. We have had plenty of players who have done things of which I have disapproved, but never before something like this. It is not virtue signalling, it is not making a mountain out of a mole hill. What he has done is wrong. And if people on here want to absolve both themselves and Tosun of thinking of it any more deeply, by merely claiming that he is just supporting the troops, then shame on them too.

I have never once booed an Everton player. If I haven't liked them for something they've done, the way they've played or their attitude, I've just sat there quietly not cheering or some such. That has changed with this, this goes even further. I will be utterly livid to see him ever pull on our shirt again. We are all very quick to praise the club for having a good heart and getting things right when it comes to community etc. Yet here they are silent. It's just not on.

Maybe Tosun has been, or sympathises with those who have been, affected by actions taken by the PKK. Or maybe Tosun just does "support the troops"? It's a hugely common position taken by many all through the world without thinking of the wider situation.
