Apologies in advance for a long winded essay im about to post, but i had this discussion on facebook a few months ago. A facebook 'friend' from the US of A, was trying to bring attention to the woman who killed the giraffe, well before the media got hold of it.

I had the discussion about how people call this a sport, i explained that a sport is either a individual or a group of people competing against one another with anything from a minimal to equal chance of winning. I explained that this was not a sport, shooting a animal from a few hundred yards with a rifle is not competitive at all, unless the animal believes in american rights and carries a gun in its mane or pouch for self defence.

We - as human beings are hell bent on destroying everything including eachother. We see a majestic lion as a beautiful creature then decide 'hey thats a magnificent beast isnt it Jim ?!' 'Yes Bert it is wonderful, i think it would loook great on your wall, lets shoot it'.
Then we - again the human race decide to cry, bitch and moan when nature strikes back via a earthquake or tsunami and wipe us out without chance of survival. Karma really is a bitch isnt it ?!

These hunting idiots then try to justify their actions by saying 'yeah but you eat meat, guess were that comes from ?' We all know the answer to this, it comes from animals, the difference is these are animals are bred for eating, means of survival etc. Now im not sure what Cecil the lion tastes like but id prefer to see it roaming a piece of land than a piece on my plate or wall.

The evil inside me would like to see the hunters get a taste of their own medicine, see how they like it when they have zero to 1% of survival against something, but then whats the point ? It will only make me as bad as the hunters themselves, two wrongs dont make a right and all that.

I always try to not get wound up by these type of stories because there isnt much i can do about it, guess its the Evertonion blood inside me, always backing the underdog against the more equipped hunters.

This stuffs nothing new though, it goes on all time in South Africa and has done for decades. It just took a Yank doing it to make the world suddenly care about it.

No, the furore is because it was shot illegally, was under observation, and was one of Zimbabwe's most popular tourist attractions, not because it was shot by an American.

You've kind of missed the entire point about how messed up internet mob justice can be and you can't seem to get your head around the fact I'm talking about the wider situation not this specific case.

i've already said i have no sympathy for the guy in this case but this trend of the entire internet trying to ruin peoples lives is not a good thing, it solves nothing and has the potential for causing more trouble than its worth. How many times have people been terrorised online due to false identity etc ? an absolute ton.

This guys innocent kids have now received death threats and are reportedly under police protection, Im sorry but nothing justifies that.

Whilst i understand the whole innocent children thing, i do believe the children should be made aware, that the animals in their favourite bed time stories are being killed by their own father. We grow up in world of such hypocrisy and arrogance.

The one good thing that could come out of this disgusting story, is that it's brought into sharp Worldwide focus - the practice of Western morons with more money than sense - paying to shoot wild animals like ducks in a barrel, to give them some sort of kick, whilst they delude themselves that they're big game hunters.

Anyone who even contemplates such an action has severe issues imo and should seek therapy not a bleeding rifle.

pretty sure most of the people are appalled by the fact he killed a lion for fun, the fact it was a famous lion is pretty irrelevant to the level of fume... it being famous just gave it more publicity.

Think I'd rather save the Tigers, can think of quite a few people the world would be better off without in lieu of killing one of the most beautiful members of the animal world.
